😠Stock phrases
1️⃣ gourmet’s paradise
👀代替: food paradise
2️⃣mouth-watering cuisine
👀代替: delicious/tasty/wonderful dish
3️⃣cut-throat competition
👀代替: keen competition
4️⃣fight on our own turf

////////////////////////////
😠Problematic sentences
5️⃣ While some sing praises to this choice in the belief that…, some frown upon it.
While some believe this choice is wise in the sense that…, some disagree.
-
6️⃣ After serious consideration in the long run as a whole, I am firmly convinced that we should give the green lights to the suggestion. Considering the enormous benefits brought by the suggestion, we should adopt it soon.
-
7️⃣ Valid as this argument is at first glance, it does not HOLD much WATER.
The argument seems to be valid/sounds reasonable. In fact, it is illogical as...
-
8️⃣ The justifications to which my PROPENSITY can be ASCRIBED are TWO-FOLD.
There are 2 reasons, including A and B, behind my view.
-
9️⃣ Beneath my stance, there lie strong justifications and an anticipated prospect in supporting…
Arguments above reveal the fact that supporting A brings benefits to…

someone who lies about themselves on the Internet in order to impress people, especially so that someone will start a relationship with them
e.g.
Turns out the girl I thought I met online was just a catfish of an old man.
—Urban Dictionary
★★★★★★★★★★★★
to deceive (someone) by creating a false personal profile online
e.g.
They never actually met. He was an online thing. They'd been talking for over a year. We were all pretty sure he was catfishing her, but she was convinced he was legit and that they were in love.
—M-W Dictionary

—NY Times
When Nev was visiting with Angela and her husband Vince, Vince tells them a story about a problem when live cod were shipped to Asia from North America, and the flesh ended up gross and mushy from inactivity. In order to keep the cod active, according to Vince’s story, the fisherman started putting catfish in with the cod to nip at their tails and keep them active. Vince implies that Angela is like those catfish because life would be “dull and boring if we didn’t have someone nipping at our fins.”

So, beware of catfishing.

Our story is one of perseverance, of a commitment to democracy against all odds.
• They are convinced that, against all (the) odds, they will be able to turn their dream into reality.
If you achieve sth against all odds, you achieve it although there were a lot of problems and you were not likely to succeed.
(X and Y are at odds)、可能性 (The odds are that S+V) 等等。
搭配詞上,odds 喜歡跟 battle 和 struggle 連用,如 battle / struggle against the odds 表達「在萬難下努力」、或 defy / overcome the odds 表達「克服重重困難」。
