I've been teaching myself violin since last Summer! Finally felt confident enough to post a little something!
I haven't been posting songs and writing songs for the past year and a half because my vocal cords developed nodes :(
They are slowly healing but there is still a long way to go. On the bright side though, I picked up the violin, and I've been dancing a lot!
Other things that have happened in my life:
- Almost graduated University!
- Moved to Taiwan!
- Got invited to Korea to participate in a TV Show called K-pop Star.
I didn't make it onto the second round though! Haha. But I got to see BoA ^^

常常跟年輕人說，一個學好英文的方法，是多讀小說，不一定要是世界名著，一般頗受推介的流行著作就好。
最近在讀一本犯罪驚慄小說 crime thriller，遇到以下一段文字，一讀就想到，這可以成為英文課堂上的教材。
有關片段，是故事中奸角對忠角——兩人均是律師——說的一番話；奸角氣憤對方原本對其建議不屑一顧，終又前倨後恭改變心意，當下向之奚落：
"You see, the fact that you FLIP-FLOPPED just makes me all the more certain things are as they should be. We don't like ABOUT-FACES. We want to be utterly confident that everyone is doing THEIR ALL for the team."
先看 vocab 生字，flip-flop 原本係「人字拖」，是那種露趾的拖鞋，因為穿起來走路前後踢躂之象，給借用來表達「轉軚、一時一樣」，以至反口，亦即我們口語的 U-turn。
•The candidate flip-flopped on a number of issues. 這候選人就許多議題都掉轉槍頭、轉軚了。
改用做名詞：
•There have been accusations of a government flip-flop on a tax break for the tourism industry. 一直有指控謂，政府就旅遊業寬免稅項一筆，已經轉軚。
另一生字，about-face，不也就是flip-flop 的同義詞。About-face 原本是操兵時的一個口令，叫士兵轉身掉頭，一樣給借用來代替a complete change of direction, opinion or way of acting，不論取向、意見或行為的完全徹底改變。例：

另有 their all 的用法，all 所有；不論 my all、his all 或 their all，都是指一個人精神或資源可以付出的「所有」，也即是全身全心悉力以赴，等於本土口語中的「瞓身」。

•He wants to give his all to what he is doing. 他希望全力以赴，做好他正在做的事。//

今天的單字篇比較有挑戰性，但是相信我，你一定會收穫豐富！
延伸之前分享的「假朋友」主題，這個單字非常奸詐地，有英文和義大利文，兩個假朋友，也就是« Confidence »。我猜，此刻你正在想：「這不就是信心嗎？」但是，這個單字沒那麼簡單（點播#黃小琥），就讓我們在黃老師的歌聲中，和大家娓娓道來這個單字吧......
簡單的介紹這個單字，在英文「Confidence」是「信心」的意思；義大利文「Confidenza」則是「熟悉」的意思，也就是法文的 « familiarité »。 除此之外，這個單字還有很多學問！
#當confidence是名詞_秘密
法文的« confidence »，也就是「秘密」。比如說，你今天想要跟我分享一個秘密，你可以在我耳邊小聲地說：Je vais te faire une confidence.（我要跟你說一個秘密。）
另外，我們也會用這個單字表達 « être dans la confidence »。
比如說：Pierre est dans la confidence.
在這句話中，並非表達Pierre的名字是個秘密，而是Pierre是知道這個秘密的人。另外我們也可以說：Qui d’autre est dans la confidence à part toi ?（除了你之外，還有誰知道這個秘密？）這時候你可以回答（嗯對，記得小聲一點）：Approche, je vais te mettre dans la confidence. (口語一點：來吧！靠近一點！我會把你列為知道秘密的人之一。）
要注意這個單字還有一個很常見的用法« en confidence »，但不只是法語學習者，包括母語者也常常犯錯。比如說明天有一場考試，你想跟大家表示你對這個考試非常有自信，常常會有人說：
«Je suis en confidence pour l’examen de demain ! » ❌
但是這是錯誤的意思，大家常常誤觸 « faux amis » 的陷阱。
正確的說法是：
« Je suis en confiance pour l'examen de demain ! » ⭕
還有要注意的是，« En confidence »並不是表達「自信」的意思，它的意思是「秘密」，如果你要秘密地跟朋友說： « Je te le dis en confidence, ne le répète pas ! »（我要跟你說這個秘密，你不要跟別人說。）
除此之外，在法國我們有一個很常見的說法：« Secret de deux : secret de Dieu. Secret de trois : secret de tous. » (一個秘密，秘密在我們兩之間是和神分享；一個秘密在三人之間是和所有人分享。
#當confident是形容詞時_機密
« confident »的形容詞是 « confidentiel（confidentielle）»，感謝老天爺，它的意思和英文「confidential」是一樣的意思，我們終於可以有一個真實的朋友了（喜極而泣）！這個單字通常被用來形容某件事必須被保密。例如，如果朋友發現你的日記，但你不想要其他人偷看，你可以在封面寫上： « Ce cahier est confidentiel et personne ne doit le lire. » （這本書是機密，不許偷看！）。此外，還有一個說法：« Les curieux sont plus attirés par les choses confidentielles. » （好奇的人更容易被機密的事吸引。）所以如果你想要某人知道某件事，但不想直接跟他說，你可以把這個句子塞在筆記本或者寫在封面上： « Confidentiel ! Top secret ! »（機密！秘密！）。我敢保證他一定會讀！
最後，這個單字還有一個動詞« confier »，和「信任」是一樣的概念，你可以很容易地猜到它的意思：將某事或某人留給對方照顧。比如說：如果在飯店報到之前，想先把行李放在櫃台，你可以跟接待人員說： Puis-je vous confier ma valise? （我可以把行李箱交給你嗎？）。此外，它也有 « en confidence »（保密）的意思，就像是« Il m’a confié qu’il comptait partir »（他告訴我（可能是秘密地）他打算離開。）另外，代詞動詞« se confier » 意味著「和某人分享秘密」。例如： « Elle ne s'est confiée à personne. »（她沒有向任何人透露任何事。）
