近日疫情紓緩，迎來六位+0，但市府團隊仍不鬆懈，超前部署，日前舉辦擴大管制兵棋推演，以最紮實的實境演練，做好準備。本週的 #英語小教室 時間，就要跟大家分享「兵棋推演」的英文怎麼說～

🚩 兵棋推演最早指的是一種室內軍事演習，所以英文可稱之為military simulation(軍事模擬)。後來，不再侷限於軍事範圍，不管是外交、商業決策或是這一次的防疫演練都可藉由兵棋推演擬定應變措施及後續策略，因此英文中使用command post exercise(指揮所演習)或是tabletop exercise(桌上演習)或許會更為貼切。

這次新北市率先舉行兵棋推演，事前花了3週的時間，研究新加坡、韓國、歐美各國的擴大城市管制(control)作法，再根據新北市本身的地形地貌、現有資源，針對各種狀況進行模擬(simulation)，並進行現場直播(live streaming) ，吸引超過25萬的市民朋友同步收看，可見大家對於這個議題的關心。

要進行這樣的管制並不容易，除了要整合(integrate)新北市自身的人力及物資，也需要鄰近縣市的區域聯防，中央防疫政策的宣布及指示更是不可或缺。雖然台灣目前疫情控制得還不錯，連續零確診更是讓大家大為振奮，但我們仍然沒有大意的本錢，永遠都要「有最壞的打算，做最好的準備」(make the best preparations for the worst)。

1. en función de 相信上過國高中數學會知道f(x)方程式的概念，此與英文function類似，而 ""de""後面帶入的是自變數(以數學來說是X)，應變數(Y)就是出來的結果囉！ 例句中的目的地是應變數(Y)，後面一大串則是自變數(X)。

And did you know that the word "minions" actually means faceless (and often spineless) people whose only role is to be a yes-man to their superior? 我地可能都覺得 Minions 好鬼盞鬼。你又知唔知道 Minions 呢個字本身有奴才嘅意思呢？Minions 又會令你諗起咩字？可能你會諗起 "Yes-man" (對人唯命是從嘅人)，可能你會諗起 silly（傻傻的），obey（服從），ignorant（無知），naive（天真）。

因為 Minions 成日重複其他 Minions 嘅說話同動作，其中一個 Minions 我諗起嘅字就係從眾 － conform 喇！Conform 嘅意思就係從眾，或遵從（既有標準）嘅意思。呢個字唔一定係貶義詞但常帶有貶義的 connotations（含義）。我們畢竟是一個尊崇獨特性的社會嘛！

Usage 方面，conform 呢個字經常同 to 呢個 preposition（介系詞）一齊使用。"conform to peer pressure", "conform to social norms", "conform to regulations", etc. 既然同 preposition 一齊用，就梗係…VI － intransitive verb（不及物動詞）啦！我試作左兩個例句：

例句一：History tells us that whoever that are in power often have a great number of minions at their command. 歷史告訴我們，誰得勢誰手下就有一班對他們唯命是從的奴才。

例句二：It is hard to have hopes for young people who know only to conform to social norms. After all, youth is the best time for us to venture into new worlds and blaze our own trails. 我們實在很難對只懂循規蹈矩、甘於囿於社會規範的年輕人抱有什麼希望。畢竟，年輕人最有本錢無畏的闖出一片天，走出自己的路。
