【#派軍糧】千萬不要少看一粒朱古力！就像今時今日隨處可見的M&M’s朱古力，那些年竟是為了當作軍糧而製作出來的？

「M&M's」創辦人之一的Forrest Mars，是國際知名食品製造商瑪氏 (Mars) 創辦人Frank Mars的兒子，因此他自小便熱衷於糖果、朱古力的製作。1930年代，Forrest Mars到西班牙遊歷時，該國正發生內戰 (1936-1939年)，他發現軍人都在吃一種以硬糖衣包裹的朱古力(其實是英國的「聰明豆」)，這種朱古力除了能為軍人補充熱量，也因為有外層的糖衣保護而不易融化。

Forrest Mars回到美國後，便找來巧克力製造商Hershey's董事長的兒子Bruce Murrie合作，兩位「富二代」齊研發這種易於保存的朱古力。至1941年2月28日，M&M's朱古力首度問世，當時以咖啡色的圓形紙筒包裝推出，由於方便運輸及攜帶，獲軍方大量採購，成為指定軍糧之一，在二次世界大戰期間深受美國軍人的喜愛。「M&M's」這個名字，就是以二人姓氏的第一個英文字組成。

戰爭期間，M&M's的唯一客戶是美國軍方，而在戰爭結束後，M&M's朱古力亦打入一般民眾的消費市場，成為一種十分普及的糖果。1948年，M&M's的包裝改為今日大家都十分熟悉的咖啡色塑膠袋；1950年，每顆M&M's都會印上黑色的「m」字，後來改為白色，據悉這樣的設計，是為了讓消費者知道自己吃到的是不是正版；1954年，這年誕生的除了同樣經典的花生口味，還有那知名的廣告標語「只溶你口，不溶你手」(Melts in your mouth, not in your hand.)

品牌的故事還有太多太多，後來在1981年上太空、推出不同顏色的卡通角色深入民心、數之不盡的期間限定口味，直到現在，全世界的人們都依然在吃M&M。一粒朱古力的威力，的確是不容小覷。
