    Revenge spending?

    A. vengeful shopping

Go on a vengeful shopping spree

    1. It might be tempting for some to go on a vengeful shopping spree with their spouses’ credit card after an argument.

    2. It explains why in the weeks leading up, Orchard Road is clogged with vehicles and human bodies, makeshift bazaars sprout on every empty grass patch, and Singaporeans shop with a vengeance.

    B. revenge shopping

    1. “Revenge shopping”, a term first invented in China, refers to the overindulgence in spending and consumption by shoppers who have been patiently awaiting quarantines, lockdowns and social distancing measures to ease. Fuelled by revenge shoppers, long queues and a spike in sales have been recorded in various major brand outlets in a number of Chinese cities, such as Apple, Gucci, Nike and Estée Lauder among others.

    2. Several luxury goods companies reported an uptick in China this spring as people emerged from weeks of lockdowns, spurring what some analysts have called a trend of "revenge spending" — the release of pent-up demand once people aren't forced to stay home.

•go on a shopping spree 大採購

•go on a shopping binge

    •binge shopping/eating 爆買/暴飲暴食

    •a shopping frenzy 購物狂潮

    ...

如果你一次看完很多集,可以說 finish many / all of the episodes in one sitting.

定義就是 "you do not stop doing it until you have finished it."

2005 年時,Collins Dictionary 甚至就將 Word of the Year 頒給了 binge-watch 這個字。

Wired 雜誌曾做過一個整理叫做 "51 of the best Netflix series to binge-watch in 2020",裡面整理了 51 部值得在2020 年追一波的劇。

1️⃣ Netflix is rolling out an app update for the iPhone and iPad Wednesday that will make it easier for people to binge-watch. (TIME Magazine)

2️⃣ Have you ever spent hours binge-watching shows on Netflix?

3️⃣ In a recent study in the Journal of Health Psychology, researchers analyzed the psychology of TV binge-watching, examining what motivates people to binge-watch and how they feel about the habit, and among the results was some good news for anyone who prefers to spend their weekends on the couch with the TV on.

【經濟學人簡單學】 在感情上你是 Netflix and Chill 派還是 Hulu and commitment 派呢?

(Detroit's car industry in the 1940s) 等等。

In total the entertainment business has spent at least $650bn on acquisitions and programming in the past five years. This binge is the culmination of 20 years of creative destruction.

Netflix、Disney、AT&T Time Warner、Comcast

The contenders include Netflix, Disney, AT&T Time Warner, Comcast, and smaller upstarts. Three tech firms are active, too-\-\Youtube (owned by Alphabet), Amazon, and Apple, although their collective market share is still small.

Consumers have more to choose from at lower prices and can pick from a variety of streaming services that cost less than $15 each. Last year 496 new shows were made, double the number in 2010. Quality has also risen, judged by the crop of Oscar and Emmy nominations for streamed shows and by the rising diversity of storytelling.

History offers two dispiriting examples of how a consumer-friendly boom can turn into a stitch-up. Telecoms and airlines in America saw a riot of competition in the 1990s only to become financially-stretched and then reconsolidated into oligopolies that are known today for poor service and high prices.

How to get away with murder!

1️⃣ streaming service [C]

    Nick: Wanna Netflix and chill?

Rene: I'm looking for something more serious. I want Hulu and commitment.
