One area we are especially focused on is secure technology and networks to support our digital activities and economies. So why is secure 5G so important?

It’s U.S.-Taiwan Security Cooperation Month, and that includes cybersecurity! We designed some quizzes to test your understanding of 5G and 5G security. We’ll announce the answers in the comments in the coming days. Ready?

A. It means 5G equipment and software companies are not subject to control by an authoritarian government and have judicial recourse to successfully challenge government
overreach.

美國商務部於8月17日進一步限制「實體清單」中的華為及其子公司取得美國國內外使用美國技術和軟體生產的產品，這項措施擴大五月份實施的「外國直接產品規定」，以避免華為規避這項限制。美國商務部部長羅斯表示：「華為及其外國分支機構已加大力道，試圖取得由美國技術和軟體研發或生產的先進半導體，目的在於實現中國共產黨的政策目標。」美國國務卿蓬佩奧也強力支持商務部的新措施，並表示：「美國政府今天頒布了幾項措施，為的就是保護美國國家安全、美國公民的隱私，並捍衛5G架構的完整性，以避免受到中國的惡意侵擾。」更多資訊請見：https://bit.ly/31fyF3A #SecurityCooperationMonth #RealFriendsRealProgress #5GSecurity

The Security Cooperation between the United States and Taiwan focuses on both traditional and what we call “non-traditional” security threats, such as cyberattacks, natural disasters and the impacts of climate change, and disinformation. One area we are especially focused on is secure technology and networks to support our digital activities and economies.

On August 17, the U.S. Department of Commerce further restricted access by Huawei Technologies and its non-U.S. affiliates on the Entity List to items produced domestically and abroad from U.S. technology and software. This measure follows the more limited expansion of the Foreign Direct Product Rule in May, which Huawei has continuously tried to evade. As the Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said, “Huawei and its foreign affiliates have extended their efforts to obtain advanced semiconductors developed or produced from U.S. software and technology in order to fulfill the policy objectives of the Chinese Communist Party.” U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also supported the Commerce Department’s expansion of its Foreign Direct Product Rule. He said, “ Today, our government enacted several measures to protect U.S. national security, our citizens’ privacy, and the integrity of our 5G infrastructure from Beijing’s malign influence.” Learn more here: https://bit.ly/31fyF3A
