KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Goh Liu Ying is unsure whether she will stay in the game after the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August. “I may retire ... or I may not. But, honestly, I have no plans after the Olympic Games. It all depends on the condition of my leg,” said Liu Ying, who forms the number one mixed doubles combination with Chan Peng Soon. She is, of course, referring to the surgeries done on both her knee in January last year. “For now, I’m just focused on qualifying for my second Olympic Games with Peng Soon,” said Liu Yin. Her decision to “wait-and-see” about her future in badminton is understandable. Since playing together again just over a year ago, Liu Ying-Peng Soon have experienced several ups and downs. But they’ve also done just enough to be in 11th spot in the Road to Rio ranking list to date. Only the top 16 pairs by the end of April will qualify for the Rio Olympics. Liu Ying and Peng Soon will be seeking to strengthen their ranking by doing well at the Thailand Masters, which starts in Bangkok on Monday. “Every tournament in the next two months will be important to us. It will be a big boost if we can go all the way to the title,” said Liu Ying, who left for Bangkok on Saturday. “One of our main challengers in Bangkok will be Indonesians Praveen Jordan-Debby Susanto. We’re likely face them in the quarter-finals. Hopefully, we will come through. “Peng Soon and I have spent a lot of time discussing tactics. We have also spent extra time on improving our combination.” The other pair they that they will need to keep an eye on in the earlier rounds are the unseeded Chinese pair of Liu Chen-Ou Dongni. There is set to be a keen battle in the top half of the draw among top seeds Ko Sung-hyun-Kim Ha-na of South Korea, Indonesians Markis Kido-Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth and Chinese pair Zheng Ziwei-Chen Qingchen.
