【百年基業岌岌可危 奮起捍衛我校自主｜Core Values of Centennial Establishment in Jeopardy, Rise to Defend HKU’s Autonomy】
昨夜，校務委員會打破慣例，以十二票反對、八票贊成否決了物色委員會任命副校長（人力資源）的建議，會後各委員亦無提供任何合理原因。校委會主席梁智鴻辯稱，否決任命是以香港大學長遠及最大利益為依歸。我們質疑一眾校外委員脫離現實，只顧盲目附和權貴，為虎作倀，任由中共清算我校。
面對制度暴力，也許我們早感無力。然而，我們不忍眼見港大自主及典章制度慘遭政權蹂躪。若今天我們在政權踐踏港大的尊嚴、摧毀社會的思潮堡壘之時選擇沈默， 他日在言論自由被奪走之時定必回天乏術。
此乃我校危急存亡之秋。身負時代重任，你我只能奮勇捍衛港大最後一髮尊嚴。

In last night’s meeting of the Council of the University of Hong Kong, the appointment of Prof Johannes Chan Man-mun as the University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Staffing and Resources) recommended by the Search Committee, was rejected with a vote count of 12-8 without sound justifications. Although Council Chairman Edward Leong Che-hung claimed that the decision was made in the best interest of the University of Hong Kong in the long run, doubts arise on whether these outsiders define ‘the best interest of the University’ as blind compliance to political powers’ demands of retributing HKU.
We may feel disillusioned in face of such absurdity. We cannot bear to witness the transgression of our University’s autonomy. If we remain in the shadows and watch in silence while our University’s honour is trampled to nothingness and the stronghold of free thought and knowledge is corrupted to oblivion today, our tomorrow will hold no hope for the recovery of the freedom of speech once it is robbed from us.
In light of the precarious situation, we, as responsible HKU students, are bound to stand up and defend our long-established principles - academic freedom and institutional autonomy.
