    WHEN IMPOSTER SYNDROME HITS ME HARD

    “I think you’re holding back your opinions in our team meeting, Milena.”

    I did not see this feedback coming.

    We were in a team-building session on sharing constructive feedback. And what my colleague said completely took me aback.

    I snapped, half-laughing to conceal my defensiveness: “I’m not sure if this is the case.”

    It’s not that I held back in team meetings! I wanted to make sure what I said was valuable. Okay… sometimes I over thought it too long; the team moved onto the next topic.

    But hey, isn’t that what considerate people do?

    I was working in The Netherlands among some of the brightest young minds from 20 countries worldwide. Coming from a small developing country like Vietnam, I felt like an underdog.

    Of course, my inferior feeling was self-imposed. I was the only person who saw myself that way. But I had no idea back then.

    𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞.

    During that time, Imposter Syndrome hit me hard. But it had always been with me since I was small, like a shadow. And it took many years to free myself from it.

    This might be a hard conversation but is it time for us to normalize “ declining long term partnership” proposals when it comes to figure remuneration?

    Are we saying no to building potential “long term relationship” or are we saying no to unfairness of fee- who’s here to define it anyway? Is this what they call as 🌜moral kidnapping🌛? 😅

    I was taken aback when I got called silly for having to argue for royalty charges my client images are being advertised on both ATL and BTL. I mean as long as it’s used to drive conversion, it still falls under the commercial category and image rights will have to be paid, right?

    Idk- thoughts? 👇🏻
