#'95年にHAL研究所が開発、任天堂が発売したGB専用アクションであり、タイトルは2だがFC版夢の泉の物語を含めて3作目になる。

主な特徴としては、リック・カイン・クーといったお供が追加、スライディングとダッシュの削除、仲間との合体技追加、また一定条件を満たさなければ真のラストボスを倒せない等。

目新しさや新機軸的な部分こそ少ないが前述の要素も相なって独自の魅力を生み出し、後のカービィシリーズの基本を完成させた作品といえる。

BGMはハイパーゾーン(SFC/'91年)や、カードマスター リムサリアの封印(SFC/'92年)などの安藤氏と、ワリオの森(FC/'94年)や、大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズDX(GC/'01年)などの池上氏による共同作曲で、可愛らしく癒される曲が多い。
