Describing AI to the general public is not an easy undertaking which increases the general wariness and concern on AI. To help bridge the gap, a form of Explainable AI (XAI) will be necessary to help explain a system’s rationale: how it makes decisions, what patterns it looks for, etc.

AI is also one of the main fields of interest of DARPA which aims to one day achieve an AI paradigm shift where AI can perform contextual reasoning and come to accurate conclusions in unfamiliar situations. One of the ways to do this is the Common Sense AI that can absorb information from its surroundings and come to an understanding of the world to reason like a human.

AI’s pattern recognition and detection capabilities make it an effective tool in improving security; not only digital, but also physical and financial. From facial recognition to transaction analysis, AI will be even more prevalent as the attacks too get more sophisticated. However, certain aspects of AI may bring wariness to innovators; stalling its implementation. As AI may be another form of ubiquitous technology, perhaps taking small, cautious steps is the correct way to prevent any irreversible changes.
