Jesus: The Upholder of Creation
“His Son is the radiance of his glory, the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purified us of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” (Hebrews 1:3 WEB)
Jesus is the eternal Word—the second person of God (Yahweh) that existed since the beginning. He upholds all things by the spoken word (rhema) of His power.
The original word for “upholding” is “pheró” which means “to bear, carry (bring) along, especially temporarily or to a definite (prescribed) conclusion.”
Jesus speaks a word, and that word carries the authority and power to accomplish the very purpose it was sent for.
“so is my word that goes out of my mouth: it will not return to me void, but it will accomplish that which I please, and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do.” (Isaiah 55:11 WEB)
This is the rhema word, not just the written Scriptures in general. It’s not just about randomly flipping through the Bible or finding lists of Bible verses.
At different times and seasons, Jesus says different things to you, and these words will never contradict the Scriptures.
Therefore, you are not upholding yourself—you have no power to. Apart from Jesus, you cannot even do a thing. If He stops speaking to hold all things together, your body and the rest of creation will fall apart.
Have no trust in your arm of flesh for there is no power (dunamis—God’s miracle-working power) to save you from any troubles.
Instead, focus on receiving Jesus’ rhema word for your situation. It may come directly from the Holy Spirit, from a minister of God’s word, or even your fellow Christian friend. This is the word you need to prosper and experience God’s deliverance.
After you know what Jesus is saying to you, begin to agree with it. Believe and speak the same thing as Him, and that is how you activate the power contained in that word.
I realized that it is much easier to hear what Jesus is saying when you are listening or reading God’s word. As you receive the words, He will arrest your attention to certain portions and use that as a rhema word.
In my book “Messiah’s Miracles: The Power of Having Faith in Jesus Christ”, you can read all about the 37 miracles of Jesus Christ as recorded in the four gospels. Through it, I aim to show you God’s love and grace so that faith will come to you.
It is a book that will show you how good God is—when you see Jesus in action as the Father’s perfect representative. As you read, allow Jesus to speak to you and give you the rhema word you need for your awaited breakthrough!

My Takeaways from Proverbs 22

(Day 15 of #ProverbsHesedWisdomChallenge to read a chapter from the Book of Proverbs each day which corresponds to the date as suggested by Pastor Joseph Prince in 7 Jan 2018’s Vision Sunday sermon -
http://www.miltongoh.net/miltons-blog/the-year-of-hesed-wisdom-vision-sunday-new-creation-church-theme-of-the-year-2018 ):
It is more important to have God on your side than to be rich.
“A good name [earned by honorable behavior, godly wisdom, moral courage, and personal integrity] is more desirable than great riches; And favor is better than silver and gold.” (PROVERBS 22:1 AMP)
Two things that lead to wealth and health: being humble and worshiping God.
“The reward of humility [that is, having a realistic view of one’s importance] and the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the LORD Is riches, honor, and life.” (PROVERBS 22:4 AMP)
We should introduce Jesus to our children when they are young.
Expose them to God by bringing them to church with you, praying in their presence, thanking Jesus, partaking of the Holy Communion, playing Jesus-centered sermons in the car and at home, read Jesus-centered books to them, etc.
When they have a strong impression of God since young, they will be more likely to make Jesus a part of their lives.
“Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (PROVERBS 22:6 AMP)
This is why we shouldn’t borrow money when we have other alternatives.
We don’t want to be subject to servanthood unnecessarily.
It can be a stressful and damaging experience trying to pay back the debts owed.
“The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender.” (PROVERBS 22:7 AMP)
God is not necessarily on the side of the rich, powerful and famous.
Instead, He is a Defender and Upholder of Justice for the weak and poor.
God is attracted to man’s weakness, to people who have no strength and nothing to boast of about themselves.
“He who is generous will be blessed, For he gives some of his food to the poor.
He who oppresses or exploits the poor to get more for himself Or who gives to the rich [to gain influence and favor], will only come to poverty.
Do not rob the poor because he is poor [and defenseless], Nor crush the afflicted [by legal proceedings] at the gate [where the city court is held], For the LORD will plead their case And take the life of those who rob them.” (PROVERBS 22:9, 16, 22-23 AMP)
The most treacherous being is the devil. When you have God’s wisdom, God protects you and overturns all the devil’s accusations made against you.
“The eyes of the LORD keep guard over knowledge and the one who has it, But He overthrows the words of the treacherous.” (PROVERBS 22:12 AMP)
A child starts of being foolish and when we discipline our child by caning in a proper spirit of love and correction, it will help him or her to learn and become wise.
“Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline [correction administered with godly wisdom and lovingkindness] will remove it far from him.” (PROVERBS 22:15 AMP)
A person who is very good at what or she does will experience honor.
This skillfulness can be an anointing from God.
Is there a skill that you’re especially talented in and find really easy to do?
God has probably anointed you in that area.
Use your anointing well and God will promote you before men.
“Do you see a man skillful and experienced in his work? He will stand [in honor] before kings; He will not stand before obscure men.” (PROVERBS 22:29 AMP)
