Did you know pygmy tree shrews are superficially squirrel-like in appearance?  They can be distinguished from squirrels by their long, pointed snouts and lack of long, black vibrissae. . . #Repost @shirouski.borneo My very first sightings of this tiny treeshrews, Lesser Treeshrew (Tupaia minor). Technically called scandentians, which is are long-tailed, long-nosed, omnivorous mammals that inhabit the forests of southern and southeastern Asia. Nepenthes Rajah- largest of all pitchers with up to 3 litres content. Endemic to higher elevations of Mt Kinabalu area and listed as endangered in the IUCN red list. Rajah's pitcher plant has a mutualistic relationship wih the Tree shrew Tupaia Montana and some nocturnal rat species. The plant offers nectar glands on it's lids which is often licked by tree shrews in the daytime. While licking the shrew frequently defecate into the pitcher this supplying the plant with much needed phosphorus and nitrogen. Photo credit and caption by @christianziegler
