這則併購對一般人，不論是企業用戶或是各位讀者們，基本上是不重要也無感的消息。但對於像我們這種產業觀察者來說，倒是一個值得關注的新聞。我們簡單介紹一下男女雙方：TechTarget 旗下擁有超過 140 個高度針對性技術內容的網站，是全球一個主要的企業 IT 網路集團，她的內容會影響全球的 IT 供應商與買家，我們也會引用來自 TechTarget 的部份內容。ESG 成立於 2000 年，結合深厚的行業知識 與廣泛的研究，為供應商們打造關於解決方案的特定內容，協助在面對企業用戶銷售時提供的關鍵訊息，我們也曾經引用過來自 ESG 的研究報告。
兩者的結合就內容來看是互補的，但我認為背後更大的驅動因素，仍然是因為全球經濟的影響與傳統內容提供者的困境。大家不要忘了，這些公司仍然是營利事業，仍然要以賺錢為目標，不然員工的薪水是發不出來的。網路資訊的容易取得以及消費者行為的改變，使得這些傳統的內容供應商的廣告量與委託量收入都減少，或許這樣的結合有助於雙方有更大的機會存活下去。
與所有併購案相的，我的疑慮仍然是未來是否能繼續看到以各自立場（尤其是 ESG）為中心的獨立性內容？畢竟出錢的是大爺，老闆「希望」你往東，你總不好意思大喇喇的就往西跑吧！
