    This post is our “behind-the-scenes” for our 3-7 year olds’ recital, held two weeks ago at the @asiasocietyhk ‘s #MillerTheatre.

    For two hours before the show, we did our blocking onstage, practiced our lines and movements, and most importantly, answered the children’s questions / process their feelings— excitement and fears alike— about the upcoming performance.

    If you see me moving around in the photos, it is to show the children what to do— and what NOT to do onstage (like me stooping down to speak close to the microphone! 😂)

    I’ll be sharing some of our behind-the-scenes videos via IG/FB story. I hope they make you smile.

    An off-the-beaten-track hike with the family on my birthday? Sounds just about right! 😜 Our weekly date with Nature took us to Seng Chew Quarry, an abandoned granite quarry in Bukit Gombak that is lesser known than its Little Guilin and Singapore Quarry neighbours.

    But it is precisely this ulu-ness which makes the our trek to the quarry all the more exciting because the trail is unmarked. To get there, we first had to scale a grass slope behind a block of flats (383 Bt Batok West Ave 5). Once at the top, all we had to do was to follow the longkang, which carries water from the quarry lake. (It's believed the water has magical properties 🤷‍♂️) There isn't a proper pathway but side of the drain is wide enough to walk along and go deeper into the forested area.

    Don't worry though, the walk to the quarry isn't that long. About 50m in - after stooping low to pass a fallen tree trunk - we saw a fence and beyond it lies the tranquil body of water. We entered the quarry compound via an opening to the side of the fence. And it was like stepping into another world, surreal even. Not a soul, away from civilisation, and only the sounds of birds and insects all around us.

    The entire area may be smaller than that of Keppel Hill Reservoir but it's still a piece of uninterrupted nature. Other than ascending the slope and trudging by the drain, the trail is fairly simple and short. Just wear shoes with a good grip, take care not to fall into the longkang (it's not that deep) and bring along a sense of adventure!
