Mồng Một TẾT, bỗng nhớ Nhất Họa Pháp của bậc thầy Thạch Đào (1641-1717)

Cách đây gần 4 thế kỷ, họa sư người Trung Quốc này đã đưa ra những nhận định được ví như "tuyên ngôn của trường phái Trừu tượng Biểu hiện" ở Trung Quốc, rất lâu trước khi trường phái này thực sự được ra đời ở Châu Âu:

"Khởi thủy chưa có phương pháp. Khởi thủy là hỗn mang chưa có phân định...Vậy phương pháp ra đời như thế nào? Nó ra đời từ một nét...Hội họa là từ ở cái trí hiểu biết mà ra...Cũng như một cuộc viễn du phải khởi sự bằng bước chân đầu tiên, một nét này của Nhất Họa Pháp chứa đựng toànn bộ vũ trụ và cả những cõi xa hơn nữa. Dù có dùng hàng ngàn vạn nét bút, tất thảy chúng cũng đều có bắt đầu và kết thúc trong một nét duy nhất ấy, chỉ cần biết dùng nó cho đúng là được."

Cái tinh thần này ảnh hưởng không nhỏ đến các họa sĩ hiện đại như Zao Wouki (1920-2013, Trung Quốc-Thụy Sĩ) hay Pierre Soulages (sn.1919, Pháp) và cả họa sĩ Nguyễn Trung (sn.1940, Việt Nam).

It’s the first day of the year of the Rat, and I suddenly couldn’t stop but think about Single Brushstroke by Chinese master painter Shi Tao (1644-1717)

Nearly 4 centuries ago, the renowned #painter put forward several assertions, which are considered as the “manifesto for Abstract Expressionism” in China long before this movement took place in the West:

“Genesis does not have a method. Genesis is an amalgamation of the undetermined…So how a method comes long? It begins with a line…Fine arts originate from knowledge…Just as a voyage begins from footsteps, a single brushstroke line embraces the entire universe and many other realms from afar. Be it comprised of thousands of strokes, they all begin and end in that one line, one just needs to know to use it right.” – translation of Shi Tao’s quote from the book “Chinese Theory of Fine Arts” written by professor Lin Yutang.

This belief has had great impacts on modernists such as #ZaoWouki (1920-2013, #China – #Switzerland), or #PierreSoulages (b.1919, #France) and also #NguyenTrung (b.1940, #Vietnam).

I have such an #admiration for them and always look up to them in my own #artisticpractice.
