2008-05-24 17:17:36The Philadelphia 76ers appeared
headed for their first loss of the season. Then Sportsmanship
Award winner Eric Snow was ejected for fighting.
Snow's shoving match with Tracy McGrady and ensuing ejection
sparked the 76ers, who rallied without their point guard for an
87-83 victory over the Orlando Magic.
The Sixers had just one free throw in the first five minutes of
the fourth quarter as the Magic opened a 72-68 lead. With 6:26
left, McGrady went up for a lane jumper and took exception to a
foul by Snow.
McGrady said something to Snow, who responded by putting his
finger in McGrady's chest. McGrady put both hands on Snow's
face and shoved him and both players were ejected.
"I said, `Get out of my face,'" Snow said. "He pushed me in the
face and I walked away clapping and they kicked us both out."
"I don't tough you, you don't touch me," McGrady said. "Don't
put your hands on me. And I retaliated after that. He touched
me and I reached out and that was that."
Snow sneered when his reputation as a hard but clean player was
brought up, while Magic coach Doc Rivers said his player should
have seen it coming.
"Sportsmanship? What's that got to do with anything?" Snow
said. "I didn't initiate it, you know what I'm saying? And I
don't care who you are in this league, you can be the best
samaritan in the world, but if someone pushes you, you got to
defend yourself."
"I try to tell Tracy that he is the target now," Rivers said.
"Guys are going to push and hit him, but if he's struggling
offensively, he can't get frustrated that he lets anybody get
under his skin."
Sixers players and coach Larry Brown argued the ejection of Snow
and center Theo Ratliff drew a technical foul. Orlando guard
Darrell Armstrong made the free throw for a 73-68 lead but the
Magic scored just seven points thereafter.
McGrady's departure hurt the Magic, who had to rely on a hobbled
Grant Hill and struggled to score down the stretch. Meanwhile,
Vernon Maxwell came on for Snow and teamed with fellow guards
Allen Iverson and Aaron McKie to score all of Philadelphia's 19
points in the final six minutes.
"Yeah, it fired us up. We were kind of (ticked) off," McKie
said. "McGrady takes a blow at his face and we get the stiff,
but we're a confident group. We've been in several games like
this throughout last season. You have to expect games like
this. These are the games you like to win."
Iverson scored 29 points and McKie contributed 14, drilling two
big 3-pointers down the stretch. Theo Ratliff added 14 points
and a career-high 17 rebounds for the Sixers (3-0), who won in
Orlando during the regular season for the first time since April
1, 1997, ending a five-game skid.
"These guys (Sixers) have been waiting for the opportunity to do
some big things out on the basketball court," Iverson said.
"They hear everything you write about us not having a shot
because we don't have the talent. But now, a lot of heads are
starting to turn and people recognize there's other guys that
are capable of doing big-time things in this league."

🏮Happy Yuan Xiao (Spring Lantern Festival Day)! As a Singaporean Chinese living in Singapore, I am fortunate to never have encountered racism in my home country. We celebrate Lunar New Year plus festivals from all four major ethnic groups. I am able to eat all the tang yuan, ketupat and samosa anytime I want. But the story changes when I visit other non-Asian cities...
I have been sneered at, with vulgarities strewn on my face by local passerbys and outrightly rejected by cafe wait staff & mall cashiers during my travels to the US, UK and Europe, just because my skin color is different from theirs.💛
I stand in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) community. My heart breaks when I see news of our elderly being the target of violent hate crimes. Don’t stay silent! #StopAsianHate message needs to be heard, not just in the US but everywhere else in the world too.
Racism and xenophobia should have no place in our society. Learn more : @stopaapihate

This is why I still need my wife - to pick my kids' shit up after them. 💩😝
So the biggest event happening during this long weekend #stayhome period was the unfortunate incident of one kid's (who shall be called A) poop clogging up the toilet bowl.
It all began with the wifey's shrieking from the bathroom, "Who never flush after pooping???" I walked in and came face to face with it. Lying at the bottom of the toilet bowl was this massive brown monster that I swore was at least 5cm in diameter! It was as if someone walked into my toilet, spewed molten lava out of the ass and it hardened right there... at the bottom of my toilet bowl.
I tried to flush it down but it stubbornly refused to budge. I tried using a huge pail of water to force it down but it sneered back at me. I tried washing it down together with some anti-choke chemical but still it prevailed.
And then I did what I had to.
I reached into the toilet bowl - with a plastic bag over my hand, of course - and scooped the brown chunk out, as I let out barely audible speak: "Horrible... oh my goodness... gonna throw up... might not make it... tell the kids... I love them..." And this was followed by more sounds of suppressed gagging and retching.
I didn't puke in the end and the deed was done. The wifey them took over, cleared the remaining blockage with a plunger and it was clear! Never had I loved the sound of a toilet bowl's flushing so much.
If you had read this while muching on some food, I apologise. But I guess this incident summed up our past 7 weeks of being confned at home and to a larger extent, my 17 years of marriage. Sure, we had faced lots of challenges along the way, raised our voices, quarrelled and pissed each other off. But we always managed to resolve them by seeing the lighter side of things, by not taking the little things that irk us so seriously and most importantly, supporting one another and laughing through it. Like having to fish a humongous poop out of the toilet bowl.
We may not always be lovey-dovey but I do know that the wifey has always got my back, no matter how crappy the situation can be. And that's no BS.
P.S. I'm counting on her to clean my poop when I'm old and senile in future. 😂
