On Thursday, after promising @ho.mgojkovic that I'm not going to go overboard with my ordering, I whatsApp @abbey_thebolobao and told her that i want a takarabako don and a saba bozushi. That's all... On Friday, i saw a post by Ki-sho about a limited offering of charcoal grilled tuna jaw... my greed antenna took over and i WhatsApp Abbey to add this order... along with request to send some to Alan @alanloveshisboys. Told Alan that i am sending a snack over for him and wowo to share.... and was met with a vehement objection... so i have to explain to him that it's only half a portion of a grilled tuna jaw... very light snack... whereupon, Alan grudgingly agreed. Come Saturday, doorbell rang and i saw 2 big paper bag again. I can sense the look of disapproval from Milutin so i busied myself with unpacking the bags...and saw a huge platter of Ceacellia roll that i didn't order. I turned to Milutin truimpantly and proclaimed my innocence... and WhatsApp Abbey only to find out that Alan had slyly ordered it for me!!!! (He should become a detective or fortune teller for being able to find out where i ordered my food from) Mystery solved, we began with the grilled tuna jaw... omg, it was so good...so full of good oil and omega, and goes so well with sake. After polishing that off, we started with the Ceacilia maki, a huge roll of toro-taku topped with negi toro, bafun uni, marinated egg yolk and gold flakes. I don't think anyone could have popped the entire piece in their mouth. It took me 5 big bites to finish a piece... and after having 2, i knew that i have to try the saba zushi while i still have some space left in my stomach. The saba was lightly grilled resulting in a nice crisp top and rolled with a red shari and chopped shiso leaf (i think), a good mix of strong and refreshing flavours. By now, i am full and could only take a few small mouthful of the takarabako. Declared a challenge for myself to finish this don in 1 seating the next time i order this!!! Moral of the story... I know life happens but what the fuck was that 2019? Just one word though - "Wow". If there are a few things I can take away from this year, I've learnt that: • Every one, every condition, is placed in our lives for a specific reason, better or worse. Take it in stride. • Don't break yourself trying to fix others (got that from Alison Wonderland didn't I). • You are not responsible for anyone else's happiness but your own. • Capitalism is the realest; money is meant to be spent, so indulge when you're able to. But time, time is the one thing we'll never get back, so stop wasting it on paigons and hoes. • The red flags you dismiss in any situation at the early stages or signs slyly sent by God (like traffic summons, thrice!) are real, don't ignore them. • Always be grateful for even the smallest gestures. • Night cream is important. The year saw me achieving some of the biggest milestones, but it came with a fair share of equally steep learning curves showing me humanity's ugly side. Along the way, I lost myself, forgot my worth, and got blinded firefighting constantly in the process. Sure, flipping five figures a month was sickkkkk but I literally ran out of passion for life to enjoy that luxury because of every other daunting aspect; while work was the only thing keeping me whole and content. The past months finding myself on an "eat, pray, love" journey (bye housing downpayment btw) linking up with old friends who slapped sense into me, meeting new ones who talked them into me, and immersing myself in every moment took my blindfolds off, reminded me of my worth, and encouraged me to appreciate everyone and everything again. Here's one at Fabrique de Bouchons in Paris, where I ate well, prayed sincerely, and loved wholeheartedly. Also because it's the most expensivest meal of my entire trip. I think about that €170 sometimes. Not about to pull that basic "2020 please be good to me" talk, but I'm actually excited for what's to come being in a whole new environment moving forward. 🤫💪🏼 So here's a shoutout to the conditions we grew through, the memories we made, the people we loved, and still love dearly; thanks for the year. 🥰 Your lover boy, Jon 🐞
