I’ve been struggling to put words together since I heard the news. Nothing seems to makes sense, it’s been so surreal, my throat’s still all choked up, and my thoughts feel so far away from my brain. I would often get into heated discussions with him over work, I’d sigh deeply whenever he blasted his music from his office with the door wide open, and I’d often raise my eyebrows in skepticism whenever he raved about how good his (almost) daily lunch of sweet potatoes & black beans tasted, with the self-concocted curry powder & peanut butter sauce mix. We definitely disagreed about quite a number of things, heh. But we had plenty of laughs too. I took this photo at our last VO session together (pre-Covid). The script called for me to refer to him as “dear”, hence the awkward faces we pulled for this photo. He loved a good joke, and had a great sense of humour. Even right up till 3pm yesterday, probably while he was in the hospital, he was still texting me about work, and replying me with “😂😂😂” emojis. Submitting my self-appraisal for work today was tough. Looking back at my previous appraisals and reading his comments about me. Seeing his name listed as Supervisor, filling each text-box up methodically, yet knowing that he’ll never read it. Heartbreaking. His deep passion for radio was matched by his intense devotion to triathlons, but I’m 100% sure that neither of the two trumped his love for his family. Too young, and definitely way too soon. RIP, Jamie. We miss you already.
