    Abraham faced an impossible situation. Just imagine: at about a century old, his reproductive system was as good as dead. And his aged wife, Sarah, was by now doubly barren since she was already barren when she was much younger (see Rom. 4:19).

    Yet, despite all this, Abraham remained hopeful, knowing his hope was not in his own ability to father a child, but in his trustworthy, unchangeable God, whose love and promises never fail. The result? God gave them a beautiful miracle baby whom they named Isaac, and through Isaac, Abraham indeed “became the father of many nations” (Rom. 4:18).

    德州在今年五月立法，禁止女性於懷孕滿六週後墮胎。雖然美國公民團體趕在8月30日向聯邦最高法院聲請暫時停止該法之施行，但聯邦最高法院迄今並未表態，這可能代表美國聯邦最高法院在墮胎議題上將轉變見解。

    川普任內，總共任名了三位聯邦最高法院的大法官，導致目前聯邦最高法院的政治光譜嚴重向保守派傾斜。如果依照聯邦最高法院的過往見解，任何限制墮胎的法律，如果對於墮胎形成了「過度負擔（undue burden）」，就會違憲（過度限制女性的墮胎權）；德州的「心跳法」很明顯對於婦女構成了過度負擔，但是聯邦最高法院卻拒絕介入，顯示最高法院對於墮胎權的立場可能已經發生變化。

    在2020年的 June Medical Services, LLC v. Russo案，美國聯邦最高法院以5:4的些微差距，將 Louisiana 的限制墮胎法律宣告違憲。今年五月，美國聯邦最高法院受理 Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization 案－對密西西比州限制懷孕15週後墮胎的法律進行違憲審查（尚未宣判）。

    如果最高法院連限制懷孕滿六週後墮胎的德州「心跳法」都拒絕介入，那路易西安那州的限制懷孕滿15週墮胎法被認定合憲的機率顯然大增。

    美國德州「心跳法」在最高法院未對緊急阻擋請求採取行動後，於今天生效，這項法律規定懷孕6週後即不允許墮胎，因強姦或亂倫受孕也不例外，是全美最嚴苛的墮胎法之一。

    德州共和黨籍州長艾波特（Greg Abbott）5月簽署「心跳法案」（heartbeat bill），禁止在偵測到胎兒心跳後執行墮胎。通常是在孕期6週左右可以測得胎兒心跳。

    美國最高法院仍可能批准人權團體和墮胎業者的請求，中止所謂的「心跳法」，這項法律使德州成為全美接受墮胎最困難的地區。

    美國民權聯盟（American Civil Liberties Union）、美國計劃生育協會（Planned Parenthood）和生育自主權中心（Center for Reproductive Rights）等團體8月30日向最高法院遞出緊急請求，希望能阻止德州「心跳法」生效。

    美國民權聯盟指出：「在德州，大約85%至90%接受墮胎的人至少都已懷孕6週，意味這項法律將禁止近整個州的墮胎行為。」……

    德州墮胎法不同之處在於將允許公眾參與新法執行，而不是州檢察官或衛生部門；美國民權聯盟指出，德州法律「建立賞金獵人計畫，鼓勵大眾對他們認為違反禁令者，提起代價高昂且騷擾人的訴訟」。
