FINALLY. FIRST FULL MARATHON IN THE BAG 😭🔥 --- Despite a full day shift at work the day before, I woke up feeling pretty good today. Weather was great, cool but not too cold, cloudy with some humidity, it was a perfect day to run. Mentally I was prepared to embark on my first full marathon! --- The training and preparation for the past 17 weeks led to this day. Despite some unforeseen injuries in the process, with the right rest and recovery, I was back in action, though not at my peak. It was important to me to let my foot heal fully before returning to long runs. What went well was that I really enjoyed the route that I've mapped and the refuelling strategy that I've planned out. --- The last 10K was a killer, but thanks to some route planning, it was a nice downhill the last 3K before a final push up the hill to campus at the last 300m. --- It was an emotional end, because I never knew I was capable of doing this and I was always so afraid of failing, hence my first attempt after running long distances for 8 years. 8 years full of self-doubt and fear of failure. This is really empowering to be able to complete this. It's a testament to what I can accomplish when I do something because I want to and not be afraid of what others think. And if I fail, I just try again. Also, it's a metaphor of life and life here in Leeds as a masters student. There were lots of trials and tribulations, but with the faith and belief that you can go through it, no matter how hard the process it, you'll reach your goal eventually. Slowly but surely, step by step. But I wouldn't have the strength to accomplish without knowing that I have the support from really loved ones and people I care about the most from home.
