Use “But” to Break the Bad

“For, behold, darkness will cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but Yahweh will arise on you, and his glory shall be seen on you.” (Isaiah ‭60:2‬ ‭WEB‬)

I love the “but” in the verse above.

Yes, there is thick darkness in the world, BUT it does not cover you.

Instead, God’s glory shines out from you and scatters the surrounding darkness. It is the radiant glory of the Holy Spirit in you, and He is greater than any evil spirit out there in the world.

Things may be bleak in the world, but you must see yourself as sanctified (set apart). You will not fall like them. Only with your eyes will you look, and see the reward of the wicked. A thousand shall fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, BUT it shall not come near you. That’s quoting from Psalm 91.

People may think that you are proud for thinking that you are immune to the bad things that happen to the world. “What makes you think you are so special?”

You are a beloved child of God. You were not accidentally born to God. He purposefully adopted you into His family through the regeneration of the Holy Spirit. He spared not His only begotten Son and delivered Him up so that you would be saved. How can you not be special??

The dark fog of bad news has caused many people to be depressed and distressed. We cannot live by sight, if not our hearts will melt in fear like those who are of the world.

Look through your eyes of faith and see that God’s word has not changed with the times. His good promises towards you remain the same.

You can always stand upon the unshakable foundation of His word, especially in trying times.

Not everything may be good yet in your life, BUT God is working all things together for good. When you’re experiencing bad situations, you can always have confident hope to see His goodness come through for you at the right time.

【繼續隨便聊聊：Cody Beals與大坂直美】

今早瞄到一則體育新聞是大坂直美因憂鬱症問題，退出法網賽事。

（不知道她是誰的話，幾個關鍵字，包括三次大滿貫冠軍；世界第一球后，也是日本甚至全亞洲第一位球后；富比士排名收入是全世界最高的女子運動員。雖然她也因父親是美國人，母親日本人，又長年住在美國，不太會講日文，到底這樣算不算亞洲或日本人而有些爭議）

前幾天，她就有一點跟大會與記者槓上，她不想出席賽後記者會，因為覺得記者問的問題都很酸或落井下石，寧可被罰錢也不出席。果然這個風暴還在持續下去，昨天就直接以憂鬱症為由，退出法網了。

這讓我想到另一個加拿大的職業選手Cody Beals，過去個人提過他幾次，還有一篇談職業選手收入的，以下連結是他在4月底的影片，其實重點不是在5度時游泳，而是他的閒聊話語中，看得出他的情緒非常低落，可以看看前段與尾段，他在車內的閒聊。

包括有幾個重點，其一是他年初有在他的網站上PO出他去年一整年的收入，這是他過去每年都會做的事，去年獲得的贊助、比賽獎金再扣掉比賽相關費用後，收入只有5萬5美金（他還強調這是稅前XD），這是一個多次IRONMAN冠軍，甚至也有Sub 8紀錄的人，依然得勒緊褲帶過日，所以當比賽都沒了，他也很慌。

其二是他已一年多沒拿過冠軍了，加上比賽又大幅減少，訓練也不斷因為疫情而受影響。對於職業運動員來說，永遠都是在跟時間賽跑，不只要讓終點前的時鐘數字能越小越好，還有跟歲月的時間在賽跑，但再會跑，當賽事都沒了，能跑去那呢？封城一年，就表示他的運動生涯又少了一年。

雖然歐美的比賽都慢慢開了，而Cody的比賽確實也來了，就是5月份的IRONMAN Tulsa，但是很不幸的他單車爆胎了兩次，他決定退賽DNF，又是個令人心碎（賺不到錢）的一天，希望他下一場比賽能一切順利！

人在順風的時候，總覺得自己天下無敵，但當風水輪流轉的時候，就算世界冠軍，但他們的心理素質，跟我們一般人相比，也沒有多大差異，一樣討厭酸言酸語，一樣也會自我懷疑，一樣得煩惱下一餐在那裡。

The pandemic came with its own set of stresses, but also a surprising plus; it stripped away much of the complexity. The pared-down life I was left with was shockingly pleasant at times. Making a lot of money still isn’t high on the list. Nor becoming a social media influencer, building a coaching empire or even winning Kona. For now, I just want to live authentically, train purposefully and race fast.

Two weeks of non-stop shooting, 1600GB - 62,000 of raw image files along with 500GB of rendered video files to combine into this piece.
After transiting Panama Canal, our ship cross the Caribbean Sea into Atlantic Ocean and arrive at New York, Savannah then Charleston. The timelapse was taken over span of 15 days, some less interesting parts were speed up or faded out (cargo work, daylight hours with no clouds). Most night shots were done on 25 second shutter speed at 30 seconds interval, with port arrivals and departures at 4~8s interval.

*note* The time-lapse was presented different than actual port rotation, its narrative was not linear. I purposefully reshuffled Charleston before New York because it'd be anti-climatic to start the timelapse with dark moody rainy day arriving at New York.
