蓬尾浣熊的體形比家貓還小，一般不會超過1.5公斤。相比浣熊科(Procyonidae)的其他成員，牠們獵取肉食的比例更高，不過仍然算是雜食動物，從花蜜、漿果到蛇都可能出現在菜單上，因此動物園也需要提供多樣化的飲食。

影片中出現的蘋果、甜椒及狗糧甚至是小鼠與大麥蟲，其實都不是一般人難以獲取的素材，甚至可以說平平無奇，但要以什麼樣的比例搭配以及利用什麼形式給予，這就講求相當程度的專業，稍有差池都可能導致營養失衡及相關病症，大量的文獻閱讀與實作經驗都只是基本，根據個體的反應進行後續的調整才是真正困難的地方。

【靈貓法則】
因為大多數動物園不會讓一般民眾參觀後場照護
所以在動物園愛好者的圈子裡
發展出了許多從遊客角度估計動物園照養水平的撇步
初次到訪一座動物園時
往往也會通過那些標準來決定第一印象
「靈貓法則(Civet Rule)」就是其中之一

靈貓這個詞一般拿來泛指食肉目下靈貓科(Viverridae)的物種
大家常聽到的麝香貓(小靈貓，Viverricula indica)就是其中一員
(但麝香貓咖啡的製造者通常是椰子貓(Paradoxurus hermaphroditus))
熊狸、班獛等等也都屬於這一分支的物種
牠們大多擁有幾個共通點：
1.體型不大
2.夜行性或晨昏活動
3.生活在密林之中
4.社會大眾很少聽說
5.容易緊迫
佈置牠們的展示對於動物園來說是個艱難的挑戰
所以
只要這類動物展示能做得好
通常表示動物園具有不錯的水準及理念
這就是「靈貓法則」

雖然叫做靈貓法則
但它不僅僅適用於靈貓科
動物園中展示的小獸類
包括獴科(Herpestidae，一群戰鬥力與體型不成比例的流氓)
食蟻狸科(Mustelidae，馬達加斯加島特有的演化分支，超炫炮的一個科以後一定好好介紹)
浣熊科(Procyonidae，大多是些戴眼罩的傢伙)
貂科(Mustelidae，以大水獺、狼獾為首的一幫惡棍)
也都常常被用來當作檢視的目標
不過包含小熊貓 (Ailurus fulgens)、狐獴(Suricata suricatta)、小爪水獺(Aonyx cinerea)在內的明星物種
因為很吸引遊客目光(=錢)
所以很多動物園會特別用心管理
有時候參考的價值就比較沒有這麼大

在台北動物園內最能夠體現靈貓法則的動物莫過於食蟹獴(Herpestes urva)
動物園在雨林區為牠們準備了
大小適中的地盤
分佈得宜的樹叢
以及最重要的
一條潺潺流動的小溪
配合食蟹獴少有的群居、晝行性特點
遊客常常有幸目睹牠們豐富的自然行為
雖然目前因為怕施工影響動物而沒有放展
但就算看不到動物
單是看著展區
是不是就有一種令人佩服的專業感呢？
