When Sameer Samudra and Amit Gokhale decided to marry according to Hindu custom, the couple faced an unexpected(意想不到的) hiccup(麻煩): they couldn't find a priest(神父) to do the ceremony.

"We wanted a Hindu wedding, but so many pandits (印度教士) [priests] said no. I was agonized(極痛苦的) when one of them quoted(報價) an exorbitant(過高的) amount(金額) just because I am gay!" said Sameer, who lives in North Carolina.

"One of our friends learnt the basics of being a priest and we chose Hindu rituals(儀式) that made sense for a same-sex wedding," Sameer said.

So many Indian-American couples dream of a big fat Bollywood-style wedding, complete with traditional rituals. But that's easier said than done for gay couples - even in the US where same-sex unions were legalized(合法化) in 2015.

She did it because of the opposition she and her Pakistani(巴基斯坦的) Muslim wife, Seher, faced when they wanted to get married the traditional way.

They chose Hindu mantras(真言) and verses from the Koran(古蘭經) that symbolized companionship.

The Bible says that all our sins have been forgiven by Jesus’ one sacrifice on the cross. We have been forgiven once and for all! The high priests in the old covenant had to offer sacrifices for sins daily. But Jesus, our perfect new covenant High Priest, offered the complete, perfect sacrifice “once for all when He offered up Himself” (Hebrews 7:27). On the cross, He took upon Himself all the sins that you will commit in your lifetime, and once for all paid the full price for all your sins. Christ does not need to be crucified again for your future sins. In fact, all your sins were in the future when He died on the cross. So when you received Jesus into your heart, ALL your sins were completely forgiven!

Lord of the Sabbath

“Now on the second Sabbath after the first, he was going through the grain fields. His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate, rubbing them in their hands. But some of the Pharisees said to them, “Why do you do that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath day?” Jesus, answering them, said, “Haven’t you read what David did when he was hungry, he, and those who were with him; how he entered into God’s house, and took and ate the show bread, and gave also to those who were with him, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests alone?” He said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”” (Luke‬ ‭6:1-5‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Why did Jesus allow His disciples to do what was not lawful on a Sabbath day?

We must understand why He—the Lord of the Sabbath, gave the Sabbath.

It was supposed to be a day for man to enjoy rest from his work.

The Pharisees did not see the good intention of God. They keep laws for the sake of doing it, and they value the laws more than mankind’s welfare. They have religiosity and legalism, with no love or compassion.

Jesus is the same God who allowed David and his men to eat the holy show bread without striking them dead.

We can see that God’s intention is to take good care of us. He is a loving God—not one who seeks to enslave mankind with burdensome laws.

Let us have a heart like Jesus, to prioritize the things that truly matter. Everything God does is for mankind’s good!
