#Repost @mohammedelkurd ・・・ Palestinians in Silwan’s Bustan neighborhood refused the Occupation’s orders to demolish their own homes to make room for Zionist settlers. 19 families were given an order to demolish their own homes by today or else the Occupation authorities will. At any minute, ethnic cleansing in the form of home demolitions might occur, displacing hundreds of Palestinians. When homes are demolished, Palestinians are forced to pay the Occupation authorities thousands of dollars in fees. Literally, paying for their dispossession.   Atop the Bustan's rubble, a park will be built. But it isn't just any park. The Occupation authorities often declare a piece of land as a “national park,” if "it contains archaeological discoveries." The Bustan does not meet this criterion. So why are "national parks" built in reality? •    To forcibly expel Palestinian populations and bolster Settler presence. •   To form “natural" borders around Palestinian communities, suffocating them and preventing natural community growth. •    To promote colonial tourism. The park will be called "King's Garden" based on the notion that Bustan belonged in King David's biblical kingdom, Ir David. To translate: the Occupation authorities are citing ancient biblical stories, without archaeological evidence, as sufficient reason to demolish hundreds of Palestinian homes. (Even if there were evidence, it is no excuse to displace people). Whenever a Palestinian home in occupied Jerusalem has a demolition order, it’s usually under the pretext that it was built “without authorization.” 93% of building permit applications submitted by Palestinians to the Israeli occupation municipality are rejected. Zionists will claim that Palestinian homes are demolished because they are built "illegally." That is a deceiving argument. Rejecting most Palestinian building permits is only one colonial policy out of many.
