Yesterday’s lunch was one I pre-ordered from @alimama_maxwell, a stall at Maxwell Market recommended to me by @rebecca_toh. The current menu only offers three items to avoid food wastage. One of which is the Nasi Ayam Pangang ($6 + 30cents for packaging). The star here is the large piece of charcoal-grilled chicken thigh with the drumstick attached. It is meant to be doused in a black kicap manis sauce flooded with chopped raw onions. The chicken itself has a fragrant smokiness and is flavourful right down to the bone. We had sayur lodeh for our side dish of vegetable but the stall-owner told me she changes it regular. I found the sambal belachan spicy and addictive as it’s heavy on fresh lime. As tasty as the Ayam Pangang is, my preferred dish is the Green Chilli Chicken Rice ($6 + 30cents for packaging). The aromatic and bright sambal hijau packs a potently spicy punch and yet I couldn’t stop submitting myself to its pain/pleasure 😅. What I liked as well is that the chicken isn’t over-fried and hard.
