語言是人類文明發展的關鍵，但語言要發揮作用，就需要人們能充分運用他們的耳朵來聆聽，如此才能吸收資訊。

這篇來自【CUP】的文章帶我們看到語言學家對於人類與語言學習的研究，也讓我們進一步去深思聲音接受對於人類語言系統發展的重要性。

語言學家 Paul Pimsleur 提出聆聽先於閱讀的學習外語理念，及開發了一套基於錄音對白的語言課程：「如果你相信你的耳朵，你幾乎肯定能說得一口好口音。」這與 Tomatis 的理論殊途同歸，學好外語，先讓耳朵學會聆聽外語，因而事半功倍。

BBC 文章指出，就如 IBM France、Renault 和 Cisco 這三間大企業，也有使用這種方法幫助員工改善外語。此外，一種稱為「Berard」的技術也使用類似的形式，通過訓練聽覺來幫助語言發展。

很多人均聽說過愈早學習語言愈容易。事實上，新生兒的大腦可以感知整個人類語音的聲音範圍，但大約 8 個月後，它開始將該範圍縮小到其母語的語言範圍。完全流利地學習語言的關鍵時期大約是 6 歲，也有人認為截止期是十多歲。語言學習應用程式 Babbel 的教學設計師 Jennifer Dorman 表示，到成年時，幾乎不可能在沒有一絲口音的情況下學習一門新語言。

這意味著，法語母語人士可能很難用正宗的英語口音說英語，因為他們的大腦無法再感知構成英語的整個頻率範圍或音高，而他們的嘴巴也無法再現正確的發音。

I regularly discuss language learning methods on my channel, including strategies for memorizing large amounts of vocabulary through spaced repetition software like Anki and making sure to speak your target language constantly (in person or via websites like Italki), but today we’re going to take a look at some of the most popular commercial, mass-market apps and websites for learning languages.
