Feel so happy today. A Dato came to see me, Chinese gentleman in his 60s.Regular patient-2 months ago came for cough and fever. While examining him, I also realised he had some abnormal sound(pansystolic murmur) in his heart. Told him there might be something wrong with his valve. So referred him to a Cardiologist to rule out Mitral valve regurgitation. Today he came back so happy,he and his wife were so thankful that I detected it. His valve is 40% damaged. He had been to multiple hospitals for full medical check up and this is the first time it's been detected. This valve problem is not an overnight thing. It would've been there for years. I'm not boasting nor am I putting down anyone, but just a gentle reminder to all medical students reading this, that what medical student life is totally different from working life. Don't just study to pass exams. These notes in this pic is from my medical school days and they're my own notes, not copied from any lectures. You might think from this I might have been some distinction gold medalist student. I wasn't. Sometimes I would scrape through, sometimes maybe 60 plus marks and I'm not ashamed of that. What you want is to prepare yourself so you get 'distinction' when you deal with real lives. So I took my time those days to write my own notes and compile them for long term so much so when I come across something in a patient I even know which page I wrote it on( that's how important notes are to me). Some students can mug up everything one night before and score well in their exams.I wasn't that student. So I did whatever I could and still managed to pass every year but most important is that I am not someone who cries not getting a distinction. When you get a patient who is so grateful of you and tells everyone else about you, that is the ultimate satisfaction a doctor can get.Treat every patient as if they are your own family member.Practice the holistic approach 🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️ Good luck medical students. Don't be depressed if you don't get good marks. Just make sure you do your best and prepare long term! You can do it!!!! #medicaldoctor #medicalstudent #holistic #primaryhealthcare #cardiology #MMMC #MelakaManipal
