This photo was taken in 2016 when I was living in Houston. I felt very compelled to write and post this photo knowing today is International Yoga day. I wanted to start by saying "my backbend still sucks", I probably am still where I was 5 years ago😶. However other areas have improved- my alignment is better, my awareness is better, my connections with my own body are better.
Any type of workout is a journey and it is never easy. I couldn't even touch the floors when I first started. But when you choose to focus on the areas that you felt short, you miss the things that you have gained- which are your inner strength, power and the drive to keep you going.
I have great gratitude towards strength training, weight lifting, spinning, barre, pilates and especially yoga classes. I always remembered there was a dark period of my life when I was constantly anxious. One day I was about to start a yoga class, but I was too anxious to even walk in the classroom. My mind was everywhere but present. I eventually walked in, and the first 20 mins was hell, I wanted to leave the room. However, I was not sure if it was the teaching, or the smoothing music, or the hardcore class that took my mind away, the rest of the class I was present, peaceful and in touch of my body. Then the outlook of life changed after I stepped out of the room. Even though it lasted briefly, it was a powerful experience. From that day on my relationship with yoga has changed for the better.
Every training serves a purpose, whether it's your physical appearance, your lifestyle, your motivation or your goals in life. I choose what serves me and what makes me happy. Other things don't really matter. I always say, it's better than laying on the couch ( though sometimes that is the best feeling)
❤️This is a post for myself - always remember where I started, and how far I've come. It's not just physical training, it's also mental.
