Discover the work of the final two artists participating in edition five of Dior Lady Art on.dior.com/dior-lady-art, the annual project that gives a group of chosen artists carte blanche to reinterpret the iconic 'Lady Dior' bag. Bharti Kher and Olga Titus both explore notions of identity and place in their work and bring those same dualities of otherness and belonging to their limited-edition creations, whether in the form of color-drenched embroidery and enameled masks or in snake-like iterations of the bindi in embossed and printed leather. Additionally, they join the other eight artists – including Judy Chicago, Gisela Colón, Joel Andrianomearisoa and Chris Soal – whose illuminating individual podcast interviews you can discover on.dior.com/dior-talks as part of the 'Dior Talks' series.

“It [No Space, Just A Place] also evokes a relationship to outer space, a sort utopian place in which to set new empowering narratives, dwelling into the understanding of otherness, minoritarian identities, queer politics, new political and aesthetic relationships between humans, non-humans, the earth and the cosmos…” curator Myriam Ben Salah—Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago. The exhibition aims to support the cultural landscape of South Korea’s contemporary art scene by creating multi-layered project that brings visibility to Seoul’s alternative art spaces and other local and international artists. Historically underground venues that populate storefronts, lofts, warehouses and other places abandoned by the mainstream, these independent art spaces first appeared in Seoul in the late 90s and are famous for promoting work that is often politically engaged, experimental, and more concerned with artistic debates than commercial viability ‘No Space, Just a Place’ is curated by Myriam Ben Salah —Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago—and propelled by #Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s meditations on society: the ethical and aesthetic value of the relationships between genres and gender, the notion of learnscapes, the urgency of self-expression and an ageless anthropological manifesto are key themes to him, which are reflected in the mission and ambitions of these alternative spaces. This lays the foundation for a new perspective on the act of “being together” while not being a single entity. The exhibit will run until July 12, 2020.

Inside Gucci’s exhibition ‘No Space, Just a Place. Eterotopia’, held at the Daelim Museum in Seoul. Propelled by Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s meditations on society, the exhibition proposes a new definition of what an “other space” might be: a place to build a different, desirable future with new ways for humans to relate to each other and to their surroundings. Every project is thematically tied to the idea of the alternative spaces as a utopian place in which to set new empowering narratives, dwelling on the understanding of otherness, the exploration of minoritarian identities and queer politics. The acknowledgment of the moment of great uncertainty that humanity is currently experiencing now furtherly encourages reflections on alternative modes of being and consuming in relation to one’s environment. Curated by Myriam Ben Salah—recently appointed Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago—the exhibit features independent and alternative art spaces as well as international artists’ works including Martine Syms’ video installation ‘Notes on Gesture’ (image 1), Olivia Erlanger’s ‘Ida, Ida, Ida!’ (image 2), Kang Seung Lee’s wallpaper installation ‘Covers (QueerArch)’ and Meriem Bennani’s ‘Party on the CAPS’ (Image 4). Set up by Archivio Personale, the exhibit will run until July 12, 2020.
