[Scientists discover 100 million years ago world's oldest
sperm in amber]
An international research team has found the oldest ever sample of animal sperm, which predates previous records by 50 million years. The specimen of "giant" sperm, from the marine species ostracod, was preserved in a piece of amber in Myanmar and is roughly 100 million years old. The sperm was found in the reproductive tract of a female that had clearly just mated.
The findings suggest that the unique reproductive features of these animals have remained unchanged for millions of years. This specimens is approximately 50-million year older than the two fossils of animal sperm previously considered the oldest, one from an unknown source found in amber in France, and a second embedded in an Antarctic segmented worm cocoon.
It is also 83 million years older than the previous record for ostracod sperm, which was found at Riversleigh, in Australia.

「藍眼淚」目前是一個旅遊熱門話題，對於其是由何種生物所造成仍然眾說紛紜，一般最常見的說法有兩種，一種認為是介形蟲(ostracod)，另一種認為是渦鞭毛藻或雙鞭毛藻(dinoflagellate)中之夜光蟲(Noctiluca scintillans)所造成發光現象。

藍色發亮的叫做blue sand (藍沙) 也叫做藍眼淚。
藍眼淚是生物，是一種在海底生存的微生物，他是靠海水的一種能量生存的，但是隨著海浪被沖上岸時，離開海水的藍眼淚只能夠生存少過100秒，隨著能量的消失，藍眼淚的光芒失去，它的生命也就結束了。
浪漫卻短暫的一生。如果浪夠大，你會看見藍眼淚飄在空中，就在你身旁，想螢火蟲那樣。
正確的分類學名是ostracod，又名seed shrimp（種蝦），屬於crustaceans（介蟲）的一種。由於一些ostracod具有發光性質，因此也叫做Bioluminescent Ostracods（firefleas/Sea Firefly）。身長0.2mm至2mm，已經化石化，生活在水中環境。
說到會發光這點，其實是種蝦尋求配偶的方法。雄性種蝦在大海中浮遊時有次序地閃爍著藍光來吸引雌性種蝦。
為什麼偏偏是藍色，而不是其他顏色呢？那是因為各種顏色的光在大海中的傳播速度不一樣，而藍光在海水中的傳播速度最快。
