Neon Nights, Umbrella Lights / ft. @nanaxmacha . The first shot is one of my favorites from the whole shoot with @nanaxmacha. Neon lights are always fun to shoot - unpredictable, opportune for reflections, limited in terms of availability of natural light and potentially problematic in terms of harsh shadows and overpowering colours. All of that (and more) enables for greater creativity and experimentation. Each photo renders a wide range of possibilities within the camera itself depending on how the light is hitting the subject, the framing and angle of the camera to ‘control’ the intensity of the light and change the amount and direction of shadows, and external objects (such as an umbrella in this instance) to redirect and reflect light into the camera. I’m always looking to challenge myself and experiment with my photography, and feel neons and night provide a good environment for me to be comfortable and confident try out different things. Whether they ‘work’ and look conventionally good is not something I strive for, it’s more about understanding what ‘tools’ are around me and how I can use them to create new things or replicate a style I like. . Guys! How are you doing? Undeniably things can get pretty intense, stressed and even out of control when we are trying to keeping everything in check, zoom classes, work, and cooking? So when Dr. Prem from @solaceasia reached out to me for a collaboration to discuss about mental health, it came at a really opportune time because truthfully I don’t mind a little help here.
