There’s a rule I have with my vendors. It’s a little against conventional wisdom but something I believe in passionately. . I don’t nickel and dime them. I don’t play the game of cat and mouse. I believe in charging what you’re worth, that of course there will be others that are cheaper or more expensive. . But they won’t be my @hennwei or @leo.lkx, they won’t be my trusted providers, that I know will show up with what I need, talented and gifted with what they do well. . I have the choice as a client to decide if it works for me, if it is within my budget or what I need, but it is not my right to value what their work is worth. . Yes, it may seem like only an hour or effortless to them but just like I know my work, and what seems “easy” is really years of learning then learning again. Years of investing, growing, honing. . I remember the first time I told a vendor this. He had expected me to go back and forth and back and forth, squeezing every last cent out of him because I could. . He thanked me, again and again. Saying that it wasn’t the money saved but that he felt valued. That his work mattered. That his years of struggle was seen in the middle of a business deal because I treated him like a person. . And then he asked me the oddest question. He asked if I was a Christian. . He wanted to know why I would choose to show up this way. As grateful as he was, he was trying to understand my reasoning. . Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve definitely been burned a time or two. Usually when I’ve listened to anything but my gut on the decision. . But it always and still comes down to this. . I am the face of Jesus for some people. I am the first glimpse of what it means to follow and submit. What it means to love and bring Him to the table. . It means valuing others for who they are. Their talents, their gifts, their time. It means standing up and showing up and saying I see you and appreciate you. . It means building your tribe of trust and learning to say no to the things and places and people that don’t serve or value you. It means teaching a little big girl about how to bring Jesus with her, even in all the places you don’t think He can be. . He can be.

Day 611: Melbourne, Australia. So just a quick recap; I gave up my job, my car, my home, most of my clothes, my health insurance, my food, my paychecks, my friends and family to take public transportation around the world. I’ve had to hustle my way from city to city and exchange my photography for a place to sleep and just today I was putting together a film and photos for Landing Pads Accommodation, which is hostel here in Melbourne. Even though they didn’t pay me, I gave them every ounce of myself in the film and the photos I created for them as if they were a five star resort. All I had to eat today for lunch was one sad looking piece of bread and two slices of cheese on top of it, I couldn’t even call it a sandwich because I was missing the second piece of bread, it was the ultimate struggle meal. So why would I do this? Why give it all up to try and nickel and dime my way around the world? Well because when I checked into the next hotel I’m working with, I threw my bag in my room and just had a hunch that something amazing was about to happen. So I grabbed my camera and ran up the stairwell to the rooftop and when I pushed open the door this jaw-dropping sunset was waiting for me. That hunch and this sunset are why I do this. If something is telling you that there is more to life than what your currently doing, its not lying.
