I questioned my sanity a little halfway through the seven hour event as we gave up and just let the kids crawl under our feet and color on the floor. . Why did we bring them again? What were we thinking? I can barely concentrate - I’m either worried she’ll be a kid or guilty I’m not with her when she’s in the other room w daddy. . But then I heard your stories told after a day of learning and growing and I remember. It matters that she’s here today. It matters that she learns about inclusion and neurodiversity, it matters that she sees her mama and daddy ask questions and grow our brain too, it matters that we sit in with the policy makers and medical experts and take it all in and weigh all the different sides of the story. . It matters that we do this as a family. . This is our us. It’s small and cosy. Quirky and imperfect. Loving and living. Our little unit, our little go-team. . My brain and body is so tired and so is hers. As she finally melts down at the end of the night over something about the last piece of tissue on the roll being wet as she goes to take her shower, I see her. . I see you Ella Grace. You were brave, kind, patient, respectful today, thank you. I get down to her level and hold space for her, whispering calmly in her ear how proud I am of her and how hard she has tried all day, I help her fix her toilet roll which isn’t even really about the toilet roll but is her heart that needs her mama to pause w her. .
