One day I was at the dining table facing my altar and was inspired to paint it (with the Last Supper below)💛 Few things changed in terms of the arrangement on the altar but other than that the same. . . When it comes to inter-religious marriages I’m sure many would face the challenges of people questioning their choices, instilling fear in them on all the possible negative circumstances & branding them for being rebellious for “going against cultural values”. One thing that I’m grateful for is the mutuality my husband I and have- although he is a Catholic & I am a Hindu, we respect each other’s culture, I have never been imposed on any rules or regulations nor am I forced to convert,we go to church & temple together as a family because ultimately every religion teaches us one thing-LOVE. When you are aware of that, you let go of all cultural, caste & religious barriers because you are able to look through filters and “tags” that were pinned onto people from the time they were born.The only thing we discussed before marriage was that I want to remain a Hindu & that I’m fine with our children being baptised as we’d like them to follow the father. Other than that we just went with the flow, neither of us overthinking out of fear because love conquers all. It is when you live in fear that you attract negative circumstances. When you allow what people say get to you, even when your spouse initially never had any negative intentions, the worry that you create in your mind will slowly program them to bring into reality what you fear. I faced this statement a lot last time “Yea now they’ll say no need to convert, after marriage they’ll force you to convert.” Never have I feared that because I don’t instil that in my head. I trust my gut & I visualise all that I desire and it will come to reality. I remember telling them, “Thanks for your feedback. My focus and inspiration is on all the successful inter-religious couples that made it”❤️ Religion doesn’t define us anyways. Everyone is entitled to choose what they want to believe in.
