" In Turin on the 3rd of January 1889, Friedrich Nietzsche steps out of the doorway of number six, Via Carlo Albert, perhaps to take a stroll, perhaps to go by the post office to collect his mail. Not far from him, the driver of a hansome cab is having trouble with a stubborn horse. Despite all his urging, the horse refuses to move, whereupon the driver - Giuseppe? Carlo? Ettore? - loses his patience and takes his whip to it. Nietzsche comes up to the throng and puts an end to the brutal scene caused by the driver, by this time foaming at the mouth with rage. For the solidly built and full-moustached gentleman suddenly jumps up to the cab and throws his arms around the horse's neck, sobbing. His landlord takes him home, he lies motionless and silent for two days on a divan until he mutters the obligatory last words "Mutter, ich bin dumm!" and lives for another ten years, silent and demented, under the care of his mother and sisters. We do not know what happened to the horse." - The Turin Horse (A torinói ló) by Béla Tarr

    What If We Were Thankful?

“giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God, even the Father;” ‭‭(Ephesians‬ ‭5:20‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The moment his eyelids fly open in the morning, he complains and mutters curses, instead of being grateful to live another day.

Walking through a house full of blessings, he laments his problems, questioning why God doesn’t bless him at all.

He still has a healthy body, he can get out of bed unassisted, he has a home to live in, aren’t these all things to be thankful for?

“Daddy, good morning,” a starry-eyed girl greets him in the hallway.
Acknowledging her with a grunt and a nod, he stumbles into the bathroom.
He has a daughter, how blessed—many couples try for years and still don’t have a child.

“Morning dear,” a pretty but tired woman peeks in.
He’s got a wife. But why’s he still simmering over something trivial she said the other day?
Lots of people are still searching for love and would gladly have her as a wife if they could.

Soon, he’s at work. The same desk and same cup of coffee.
Yawning, he taps away at the keyboard, bemoaning the pointlessness of his work.
Many job seekers would love to have his position.
An income, a career, a sphere of influence—these things aren’t guaranteed to all.

The whole day passes and God watches, still eagerly waiting for him to say hi.
“My son, why won’t you let Me help you? I’m still waiting for you to ask.”

If you’re not careful, this “he” could become you and I.
Blind to all goodness, he murmurs against God.
What if we chose to be thankful?
It comes from realizing how God has been so gracious and merciful to us.
We fail Him daily and yet He still feeds and clothes us.

If we got what we deserved, we’d all be burning in Hell now, covered in worms that do not die.
It’s not that hard to pause and say “Thank you Jesus”, just give it a try!

    #ThankYouJesus #GiveThanks
