Chinese artists made it by dipping strips of cloth in lacquer—a sticky tree sap that dries to form a hard, shiny surface—and then wrapping them around a clay sculpture. After the lacquer dried, they removed the clay inside, leaving this shell.
#DidYouKnow: The word Buddha means "person who is totally awake." Look carefully at this Buddha's face. 🔍
Notice his eyes. They may look closed, but they're actually just barely open. This is one way that Buddhist artists show us that the figure is meditating.
