Throwing back to this marvelous dinner at Marcello makes me starving af. This very last minute dinner is a bless since all other places are fully booked and we have no patience for 2-hour waiting. At first I thought this is an average because we made reservation around 12AM and still had lots of space. But then, it was like all Vancouver’s population headed here to eat on a Sunday evening. It took us around half hour to get the table (even with reservation), another half hour to order food and another 15 mins for food. So yeah, the moment we saw the food coming, we looked exactly like deathly starving predators. But anyway, the food was so good (except for the salad cuz I believe that’s boring). The pasta is soft enough and covered with the delicate amount of spices. The Palermo night pizza is my other favorite thanks to the generous portion of cheese (but we al ended up having diarrhea lol). The frit calamari is basically deep fried squid but with the dipping sauce 🤤 I don’t know that could be that delicious.. And the Lavanda 💜 In conclusion, I’m fully satisfied with the food here but the service, not really good though, and it’s will be around $30+/person.

I'm excited to tell you about this newly opened Venetian-themed restaurant at Naumi Hotel. It's called Florian, a stylish restaurant serving Italian food inspired by Venetian traditions. They use quality Italian ingredients for majority of their recipes but Florian is also unafraid to use produce from other parts of the world to complement their cuisine. 🔸 Case in point, this sea urchin tart ($58) uses uni from Japan, with parma and avocado cream as its base. This isn't Japanese-inspired, but very much Italian at its core. This sea urchin was a big part of Chef Marcello's childhood growing up in Puglia, Italy, and they call it Ricci Di Mare. It was on these beaches of Puglia, where Chef Marcello, and in fact anyone, could grab sea urchin off the water and enjoy them right off the beach, for free 😦. In Singapore, we can get better sea urchin from Japan, which is the reason why it's used here. 🔸 Chef Marcello very cleverly infused flavours of parma ham into this dish, without the chewy texture of the ham to interfere with the creamy uni. He baked the ham till it was crispy, before blending it into the avocado cream. So while you don't see parma, its umami flavours were everywhere in its base.
