5 FAMOUS WESTERN CELEBRITIES WHO CAN ACTUALLY SPEAK CHINESE
Not so impressive if we made a video on '5 Chinese Celebrities Who Can Speak English', but thanks to the double standards in our world, Western celebrities who speak Chinese are way more interesting to talk about!
But to be fair, they are rare and few between. It's just not common. However, I've found 5 celebrities who have this language ability.
1. John Cena
- Legendary WWE wrestler who has recently transitioned into hilarious movie roles
- Even if you don't know wrestling, you may have seen his John Cena meme.
- Spoke Chinese in Trainwreck (2015) and some WWE promos
- Gave a 2 minute speech in Chinese to promote WWE's new deal with Chinese PPTV network, shocking everyone.
2. Mira Sorvino
- American actress who won academy award & golden globe for best supporting actress.
- Starred in some AMWF lead movies such as The Replacement Killers with Chow Yun Fat.
- Majored in East Asian Studies at Harvard University
- Did an exchange in Beijing, China where she got fluent.
3. Kevin Rudd
- Not Paul Rudd....
- Former Prime Minister of Australia, twice
- The most fluent in Mandarin Chinese on our list.
INTERMISSION
- Conan O'Brien & Hugh Jackman sing a song in Chinese!
4. Vanessa Branch
- Blonde British actress
- Spoke Chinese in Entourage & Suburban Girl
- Also been in Pirates of the Caribbean
- Majored in Chinese
- Perhaps surprising because of her stereotypical blonde appearance?
5. Mark Zuckerberg
- Co-founder of Facebook
- 6th richest man in the world
- Has a Chinese wife so it actually makes sense he speaks Chinese
- Surprised everyone at a Q&A in a Chinese university where he spoke Mandarin for an hour.

.
.
First of all, this article is too long for me to translate properly @@
So I will summarize it short and please forgive my grammar mistakes 😅
.
I was in my alma mater, Kaohsiung Senior High School, to give a speech to the students.
I shared with them my philosophy of life and suggest them follow their hearts, live in the present moment, do not regret.
.
I told students who majored in music, to keep enjoy in music and to work hard with their beloved musical instrument, but be brave to quit if this was not what they did enjoy in. Maybe they were forced by the society, parents or anything. Now is the most early time to save the rest of theirs youth from such a burden.
.
I knew they did listen carefully, that’s why they asked me some questions.
Many of them got the same question, which made me astonished and a bit sad,
“Do you think being a dentist with high income is the key enabling you to be engaged in your hobbies?”
Does this question mean they believe one’s income is more important than what one is interested in?
.
I cared about this question so much for one week after the speech.
And I asked their teacher to pass on to the cute and young, and maybe perplexed, students as following,
.
1.I’ve seen many people who are happy and successful. They are devoted to what they love and get money for living from it. He or she might be rich or poor, upper class or lower class, depending on the definition of the society, but their contentment and joy cannot be defined.
2. There are a lot of people with high income. Take dentists as an example, is every dentist looking for what he loves? Or happy? Healthy? I find my happiness from my hobbies, that’s why I share this with you. Dentistry should be shared by some dentist who are enthusiastic about dentistry, not me. I shared my occupation to you only because you are facing the college entrance timing..
3. Money is a part of our lives, a little part of our lives. Not the whole life, and not necessary either. We are richer than many people, and at the same time, poorer than many people. I would rather compare myself with those poorer than me, because that makes me feel better, and feeling is the most important thing for a person. When I compare myself with those rich men, I am nothing, I can’t afford a villa, a personal airplane, a yacht.
If we have a lot of water, we can fill a big pot. If we have little water, we can fill a thin glass and reach the same height of water level, which represents the degree of contentment.
Make clear who we are, and take our responsibility, and enjoy what we deserve.
There are different people for different places, apartments, condominium, mansion, villa, however, the common point of them are being a nice and safe cozy home.
.
If you want to get on a cruise ship, you can earn enough money for the ticket or get the job as a waiter on the ship.
When I couldn’t afford the fee for equestrian class, I worked in the stable and took care of the horses for an afternoon to get the chance to ride the horse for half an hour
.
May you kind and brave, enjoy the life with no regret

=================================
1) End up(結局〜になる)
=================================
<例文>
I ended up moving to LA after graduating from college.
What did you end up doing yesterday?
We ended up going to karaoke and stayed out all night.
=================================
2) In addition to(〜に加えて)
=================================
例えば、「彼女は英語の他に韓国語も勉強しています」は「In addition to English, she also studies Korean.」
<例文>
In addition to accounting, I also majored in psychology.
She can play the piano in addition to the guitar.
In addition to my salary, I also get commission every month.
=================================
3) Stick to(〜から離れない)
=================================
今日の会話でビッキーは「I wasn’t stuck to my majors.」 stick toは様々なシーンで使うことができる表現で、例えば「スケジュールを守る」はstick to the schedule、「ルールを守る」はstick to the rules、「信念を貫く」はstick to one’s beliefと表します。
<例文>
Let’s stick to the plan and make adjustments along the way.
If you want to lose weight, you have to stick to your meal plan.
No matter what others say, she sticks to her beliefs.
=================================
4) Mix and match(様々なものを組み合わせる)
=================================
<例文>
Feel free to mix and match these colors.
It’s 5 for $20. You can mix and match any of these items here.
At Trader Joe’s, you can mix and match your beers and create your own six pack.
(Trader Joe’s
=================================
5) Get into(〜に入る)
=================================
<例文>
I heard Hiro’s son got into Tokyo University.
It’s hard to get into that class. I’m on the waiting list.
She’s working towards getting into med school.

【 Echoes

Colasa is an avant-garde artist known for his imaginations. In addition to his graffiti art, Colasa also continuously experiences with new materials and substances to enhance the expressiveness of his works.
Colasa was born in Taiwan and majored in art related fields throughout his academic career. After graduating from high school, Colasa fell in love with skateboarding and graffiti. At the time, street culture or subculture was still very new to Taiwan, and so he had to look towards the internet to find anything related graffiti art.
Having studied art since childhood, Colasa insists on the defiance of traditional art forms and adopts a rather unconventional creative method -- graffiti. With his very own unique style and Chinese ink inspired techniques, Colasa is making a name for himself in the international arena!
