    Explanation: [口語話vs正式用語--關於“進步”跟”退步”]
The most common ways of saying these words are:

    [進步]: getting better
Eg. “My English grammar is getting better.”
Eg. “My English grammar has gotten lots better than it was.”
※ “progressing” and “improving” are still used sometimes in spoken English.

    [退步]:
    1. getting worse
Eg. “Ever since I moved out of home, my Taiwanese has been steadily getting worse.”

    2. going downhill
Eg. “Everybody’s math goes downhill after they graduate.”

    3. getting rusty: “rusty” (生疏,生鏽) is a great word to use when talking about a language (or a skill) you have not used for a while.
Eg. “I haven’t spoken English for a few months. It’s pretty rusty.”
Eg. “I haven’t shot hoops for a while. My three-point shots are getting rusty.”
Eg. “My car’s been out in the rain for the last six years. There are patches of rust on the side.”

(If you have any other questions about these words, please ask.)
