這樣的帽型稱為Engineer Cap或是Railroad Hat，從棒球帽衍生改良而來。
棒球這項運動是美國的國民運動，ㄧ名美國的鐵道工程師Kromer相當喜愛棒球，因此在他工作時總喜歡戴著棒球帽，有ㄧ天他認為這樣的帽子戴久了悶熱不舒適，而他的太太正好就是ㄧ位裁縫師，她使用枕頭套棉布重新改良設計出這款Engineer Cap。
枕頭套布料增加透氣度，帽頂抓皺也不悶熱難耐，即使久戴ㄧ整天也舒適，這樣的新設計立刻在鐵路工作員工之間流行起來，且漸漸變為工作制服帽，也是一種工裝風格。
