Vine แพลตฟอร์มวิดีโอวนลูป ที่เคยมีผู้ใช้งาน 200 ล้านราย /โดย ลงทุนแมน
ในปัจจุบัน หากพูดถึงแพลตฟอร์มคลิปวิดีโอสั้น คนส่วนใหญ่คงนึกถึงชื่อของ TikTok หรือ Instagram
แต่ย้อนไปเมื่อหลายปีก่อน มีแพลตฟอร์มชื่อว่า “Vine” ที่เคยเป็นดาวรุ่งพุ่งแรง ที่ทำให้เกิดการแชร์คลิปไวรัลบนโลกโซเชียลมากมาย

รู้ไหมว่า Vine เคยดึงดูดผู้ใช้งานอินเทอร์เน็ตได้สูงถึง 200 ล้านราย แต่สุดท้าย กลับต้องปิดตัวลงในแบบที่ไม่มีใครคาดคิด

มันเกิดอะไรขึ้นกับ Vine ?

Vine เป็นแพลตฟอร์มคลิปวิดีโอสั้น จากประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา เริ่มเปิดให้บริการเมื่อปี 2013 หรือ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

ผู้ก่อตั้งธุรกิจนี้ คือ คุณ Dom Hofmann, คุณ Rus Yusupov และ คุณ Colin Kroll ซึ่งเคยทำงานอยู่ที่สตาร์ตอัปอีคอมเมิร์ซแห่งหนึ่งด้วยกัน

โดยคุณ Hofmann มีไอเดียที่จะสร้างโซเชียลมีเดีย เกี่ยวกับการสร้างสรรค์และรับชมคลิปวิดีโอ จึงชักชวนเพื่อนทั้งสองคน ออกมาตั้งบริษัทใหม่ร่วมกัน

ต่อมา พวกเขาก็เริ่มพัฒนาแพลตฟอร์ม Vine และตัดสินใจเลือกใช้คอนเทนต์หลักเป็น “คลิปวิดีโอสั้น 6 วินาที แบบวนลูป”

โดย Vine จะมีฟีเชอร์ให้ผู้ใช้งาน ถ่ายวิดีโอระยะเวลา 6 วินาที และตกแต่งลูกเล่นเพิ่มเติมได้ ซึ่งบนแพลตฟอร์มจะมีการแบ่งหมวดหมู่คลิป ตามประเภทคอนเทนต์และความนิยมในแต่ละช่วงเวลา

ในระหว่างที่พวกเขากำลังพัฒนาแพลตฟอร์มอยู่นั้น
ปรากฏว่า แนวคิดของ Vine ก็ไปเข้าตา “Twitter” ซึ่งมองว่าการเสพคลิปแบบกระชับฉับไว สอดคล้องกับลักษณะธุรกิจของตน จึงตัดสินใจขอเข้าซื้อกิจการทันที ด้วยมูลค่าประมาณ 980 ล้านบาท

เมื่อมีบริษัทชื่อดังหนุนหลัง Vine จึงเปิดตัวสู่ตลาดด้วยความมั่นใจ และกลายเป็นแหล่งรวมคลิปสั้นที่คนนำไปแชร์กันมากมาย บนสังคมออนไลน์ต่าง ๆ

ด้วยเหตุนี้ ผู้ใช้งานประจำ (Active Users) ของ Vine จึงเติบโตเป็นเท่าตัว
ปี 2013 อยู่ที่ 40 ล้านบัญชี
ปี 2014 อยู่ที่ 100 ล้านบัญชี
ปี 2015 อยู่ที่ 200 ล้านบัญชี

ซึ่งถือเป็นจำนวนที่สูงมากสำหรับแพลตฟอร์มน้องใหม่ และยังใกล้เคียงกับบริษัทแม่อย่าง Twitter ที่ขณะนั้น มีผู้ใช้งานประมาณ 305 ล้านบัญชี อีกด้วย

แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม ท่ามกลางความคาดหวังถึงอนาคตอันสวยหรู
Vine กลับมีอายุแค่ราว 4 ปีเท่านั้น เพราะจู่ ๆ Twitter ได้ประกาศหยุดให้บริการแพลตฟอร์ม Vine อย่างกะทันหัน ในช่วงปลายปี 2016

อะไรคือสาเหตุที่ทำให้ Vine ต้องปิดตัวลง ?

ถ้าถามว่า สิ่งสำคัญที่ส่งผลให้คลิปสั้นของ Vine น่าสนใจ คืออะไร
คำตอบ คงหนีไม่พ้น “ผู้ผลิตคอนเทนต์”

แต่ที่ผ่านมา Vine กลับไม่ได้สร้างแรงจูงใจกับกลุ่ม Influencers ให้ผลิตคอนเทนต์สนุก ๆ บนแพลตฟอร์มของพวกเขาต่อไปสักเท่าไร

โดย Vine ไม่มีการแบ่งสัดส่วนรายได้ เช่น ค่าโฆษณา ให้กับเจ้าของคลิป เหมือนกับแพลตฟอร์มอื่น ๆ เพราะตัวบริษัทเองยังไม่ได้คิดหาวิธีสร้างรายได้

นอกจากนั้น เวลา 6 วินาทีต่อคลิป กลายเป็นจุดอ่อน ที่ทำให้ผู้ใช้งานถูกจำกัดลูกเล่นในการสร้างสรรค์คลิปไปพอสมควร ซึ่งถึงแม้มีข้อเรียกร้องให้ขยายบริการรองรับวิดีโอที่ยาวขึ้น แต่ก็ต้องรอจนถึงปี 2016 กว่าที่ Vine จะปรับเพิ่มให้เป็นไม่เกิน 140 วินาทีต่อคลิป ซึ่งค่อนข้างช้าเกินไป

เมื่อทุ่มเทเวลาผลิตคลิปมากมาย แต่ไม่มีผลตอบแทน และฟีเชอร์เริ่มไม่ตอบโจทย์
จึงทำให้ Influencers เปลี่ยนไปลองใช้งานแพลตฟอร์มอื่นแทน ซึ่งส่งผลให้กลุ่มผู้ติดตาม ย้ายตามไปด้วย

ในขณะเดียวกัน แพลตฟอร์มคู่แข่งในตลาด พอเห็น Vine ได้รับความนิยม ก็มีการพัฒนาฟีเชอร์คลิปวิดีโอสั้นขึ้นมาบ้าง

ยกตัวอย่างเช่น Instagram ซึ่งเดิมเป็นแพลตฟอร์มโซเชียลเน้นแชร์รูปภาพ แต่ต่อมา ได้เพิ่มคอนเทนต์วิดีโอความยาวตั้งแต่ 15 วินาที จนถึง 10 นาที ทำให้สามารถออกแบบคลิปได้หลากหลายรูปแบบ

ซึ่งในภายหลัง Vine ก็ยอมรับว่า การที่ยักษ์ใหญ่อย่าง Instagram ก้าวเข้าสู่ตลาดวิดีโอ ถือเป็นจุดเปลี่ยนสำคัญ ที่ส่งผลกระทบให้จำนวนผู้ใช้งาน Vine ลดลงอย่างรวดเร็ว

รวมถึงการเปิดตัวของ TikTok ในปี 2016 ซึ่งเป็นแพลตฟอร์มคลิปวิดีโอสั้น เช่นเดียวกับ Vine แต่รองรับความยาวเริ่มต้นที่ 15 วินาที และมีลูกเล่นแต่งคลิปที่น่าสนใจกว่า รวมทั้งมีอัลกอริทึมประสิทธิภาพสูง คอยแนะนำคลิปให้รับชมอีกด้วย

ซึ่งเปิดโอกาสให้ผู้ผลิตคอนเทนต์ มีช่องทางสร้างรายได้จากค่าโฆษณา หรือค่าสปอนเซอร์สินค้า ได้มากกว่าบนแพลตฟอร์ม Vine

อีกประเด็นหนึ่งที่น่าสนใจ คือ การขายกิจการให้กับ Twitter เร็วเกินไป

เพราะการมีสถานะเป็นบริษัทในเครือ ทำให้บางครั้ง ทีมงานขาดอำนาจและความรวดเร็วในการตัดสินใจ ซึ่งจำเป็นมากสำหรับสตาร์ตอัปในช่วงแรก ที่ต้องปรับปรุงธุรกิจอยู่ตลอดเวลา เพื่อสร้างการเติบโต

นอกจากนั้น หลังดีลขายกิจการ แม้ผู้ร่วมก่อตั้งทั้ง 3 คน จะยังอยู่พัฒนาแอปพลิเคชันต่อ แต่ต่อมาไม่นาน พวกเขาก็ลาออก รวมทั้งในขณะนั้น Twitter กำลังประสบปัญหาขาดทุน จึงไม่ได้มุ่งเน้นพัฒนาบริการอื่น ๆ ในเครือมากนัก ซึ่งทำให้การดำเนินงานของ Vine ขาดความต่อเนื่อง

เมื่อคนหันไปใช้แพลตฟอร์มอื่น ประกอบกับทิศทางธุรกิจในอนาคต ไม่ชัดเจน
จึงเป็นสาเหตุให้ Twitter ตัดสินใจไม่ไปต่อกับ Vine นั่นเอง

เรื่องนี้น่าจะเป็นแง่คิดที่ดี สำหรับการทำธุรกิจแพลตฟอร์มตัวกลาง

สิ่งที่ต้องใส่ใจเป็นอันดับต้น ๆ คงเป็นการปรับปรุงบริการ ให้ตอบสนองความต้องการของผู้ใช้งานอย่างสม่ำเสมอ เพราะถ้าปราศจากคอนเทนต์ของกลุ่มคนเหล่านั้น ตัวแพลตฟอร์มเอง อาจจะไม่เหลือมูลค่าใด ๆ

เหมือนดังกรณีของ Vine ที่เคยสร้างฐานผู้ใช้งานได้แข็งแกร่งกว่า 200 ล้านราย
แต่สุดท้าย กลับต้องปิดตัวลงไป อย่างน่าเสียดาย..

Collider รายงานว่า ตอนนี้หนังเดี่ยว Black Canary กำลังถูกพัฒนาเพื่อลง HBO Max โดย Jurnee Smollet จะกลับมารับบทเดิมอีกครั้ง พร้อมได้ Misha Green จากซีรีส์สยองขวัญเรื่องเยี่ยม Lovecraft Country มาทำหน้าที่เขียนบท และได้ Sue Kroll จาก Birds of Prey มาทำหน้าที่อำนวยการสร้าง

เท่ากับว่าตอนนี้ DC มีหนังที่พัฒนาเพื่อลงบน HBO Max ถึงสามเรื่องด้วยกันประกอบไปด้วย Batgirl, Blue Beetle และ Black Canary
