This message is in support of Dr Chai and is in response to the viral video that Ms Loshsine Uthi Kumaran Loshyy put on her Facebook regarding Dr Chai.

Ms Loshsine, you are 20+ years of age and had a cough, rhinitis and sneezing, a possible allergic reaction after visiting your relative whose home was being renovated.

On that day, Dr Chai worked non-stop and had attended to 50+ patients just between 5pm-930pm. Which means that he was seeing one patient roughly every five minutes.

In addition, at the point of time when you wanted him to revise your medication, he was attending to a patient had been bitten by a dog and was in the midst of also filling up the notification forms.

By your own account, you had waited 15 + 15 plus maybe another 15? 30? minutes by then for your medicine to be issued.

Yet you could not wait any longer. So, according to the report, you barged into the consultation room to demand to be attended to immediately even though Dr Chai asked you to wait for him to change the prescription on the system

Please note that you too used harsh words on Dr Chai by calling him ‘stupid’ and telling him to ‘get lost’. You also referred to (I might add, somewhat irrelevantly) to his Chinese accent.

I am Indian myself and note that you too have an Indian accent. So how is this relevant?

In any case, he is regretful for raising his voice and for his actions.

Are you?

Have you considered his circumstances and the amount of pressure and stress that he may have been going through?

Dr Chai is part of our government health professionals who work long hours under very difficult circumstances to serve the public. They are human too and like all humans, are not perfect.

If you are unhappy with his behaviour, there are official avenues to lodge a complaint, which you have already done.

This trend to capture and viral videos to complain and shame others should not be used indiscriminately. Don’t forget that it could happen to you too one day.

So let’s all show compassion and understanding for the other person’s point of view.

I, for one, support the hard work and dedication of the health service workers in our public health system.
