I’m a fan of layered cake....as well as layering composite. 😂 Patient came in with two chipped central incisors after a fall. After checking tooth vitality and ruling out other forms of trauma, free-hand composite restorations were placed on her 11, 21. Starburst bevel was done followed by composite shade selection done with button technique. Palatal shelf was build with cellulose strip, followed by proximal wall with matrix band (what I call “Jelly bean”) with shade A3 Enamel. Dentine layer is then placed with shade A2 Body, followed by a thin layer of body enamel with shade A1 Body. Final enamel layer is placed with shade A3 Enamel. 💡Good tip to blend in anterior composite restoration is adequate bevelling and proper shade selection. Always select composite shade while the tooth is still wet, and check the shade in the intraoral picture after curing the composite. 💡Starburst bevel is my current favourite bevelling technique. It blends really well in almost all my cases! Dental Crown • Basis 🦷 Aesthetic Dentistry has always been all of the hype (I'm a fan as well, who isn't?😆). But in the end of the day, functionality & health is still the basis of Dentistry. In cases where tooth structure loss is extensive, an inlay, onlay or a full-crown is a good go-to. I'd always go for a full-coverage crown in root-treated tooth with tooth loss as such for a better longevity of the tooth & a good coronal seal...what say you? 😊 CAD-CAM crown was fabricated for this root-treated 34. Following caries removal, core buildup with composite and crown preparation, an intraoral scan is taken followed by the CAD-CAM crown fabrication. (I always try to keep my crown margin supragingival in posteriors if possible and try to rest the margin on tooth structure. In this case I did DME on the distolingual side since the tooth structure loss is quite subgingival.) Crown shown in the picture is fresh off the milling machine, prior polishing and staining.
