前陣子在WHO定名時，有醫學背景的人主張：不要改名叫做2019-nCoV，繼續叫做武漢肺炎。
倒不是幸災樂禍心態，而是以後跟人提起這病時，能夠迅速地跟武漢地區的遭遇連結，讓疾病更有溫度，防疫更加容易。在今天的歧視與未來的防疫之間，作者建議選擇未來。

老實說，叫2019-nCOV真的很沒有意義感；之前叫做可樂那病毒（Coronavirus) 還比較好記。事實上我還谷歌了幾次，才成功拼出nCOV，對我來說這個名字惟一的記憶點就是2019。但全世界都是2020年才開始防疫的啊，叫做2019只是再次提醒我，我們反應有多慢。
你說，沒有意義感就是WHO追求的啊，一個中性的名詞、意義的真空，可以回歸科學精神。

中性就是科學精神嗎，就是我們該追求的嗎？
像玫瑰不叫玫瑰，也不叫桔梗，改叫#7B7B7B好了。我們會說『#7B7B7B 你的名字，無損你的芳香』嗎？

去除歧視就要改名字，但你又說改中性的名字沒有效果，那怎麼辦？
名字是有意義，像符咒，能乘載感情、能招喚想像。
中性而又少用的符號，是想要去除感情、去除想像，以去除歧視。
只不過，你把地方空出來了，又不放個東西，就是讓別人替你塞東西，塞他們喜歡的。
前幾天聽到有人引用蜜雪兒歐巴馬的話
「當你不定義自己，就是邀請別人用他們方便的方式替你代勞」

切的時候給我歪一邊
