【終於有新文章】東非耶路撒冷，拉利貝拉岩石教堂

位於衣索比亞首都阿迪斯阿貝巴北方645公里處，有個封閉數個世紀、海拔2427公尺高的神秘石頭城鎮，他的名字叫做拉利貝拉。據說是在12世紀末~13世紀初，統治衣索比亞的Zagwe王朝中，一位名作拉利貝拉的國王下令建造。

西元1187年，猶太人的聖城耶路撒冷為穆斯林攻占，信奉基督教的拉利貝拉聽聞此事件後決定在Roha興建第二個耶路撒冷。憑著年輕時曾拜訪過耶路撒冷的記憶，拉利貝拉耗費大量人力物力打造岩石教堂，將建物群分做二類：人間的耶路撒冷與天堂的耶路撒冷，中間以約旦河隔開，當時Roha也被定為衣索比亞的首都。

拉利貝拉王死後，直到16世紀，這個遺世獨立的鄉村小鎮才開始被外界所發現，並以“活石”的形式雕刻出來的教堂聞名於世，在岩石建築史上佔有重要地位。聯合國教科文組織已發現當地坐落著11個教堂，其中，Rock-Hewn Churches也於1978年被列為了世界遺產；當地更盛稱為世界第八大奇景。

很難想像當時的人們，是如何往下挖掘，建造出一座座驚人的岩石教堂。

衣索比亞的偉大建築——拉利貝拉石壁教堂之一

有興趣到衣索比亞旅遊的朋友，在網路搜尋的時候，第一個映入眼簾的，大概就是拉利貝拉石壁教堂（Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela），尤其是那座標誌性的聖喬治教堂。我們之前提過，衣索比亞是個旅遊資源極為豐富的國家，只是沒有做好基礎建設，一般人也不知道。而關於這個UNESCO世界遺產，則是除了聖喬治教堂之外，還有許多迷人的建築以及令人感動的宗教儀式。

拉利貝拉教堂群是什麼時候開始建設的，目前眾說紛紜。不過有一點可以確定的是，扎格維王朝（Zagwe Dynasty）與城市同名的拉利貝拉國王對於這個教堂群有著決定性的貢獻。

拉利貝拉於1181到1121年統治衣索比亞王國。在為期間的1187年，世界發生一場驚天動地的大事，就是基督教聖地耶路撒冷（Jerusalem）淪陷在伊斯蘭的薩拉丁（Saladin）之手。附帶一提，薩拉丁是伊斯蘭埃宥比王朝（Ayyubid Dynasty）的開國者。它不僅是伊斯蘭的偉人，也是庫德族的民族英雄。

不過薩拉丁佔領耶路撒冷的事實，卻是讓基督徒蒙羞。其實際的影響就是教徒無法去聖地朝聖。這使得同樣是基督徒的拉利貝拉發下宏願，建造一座模仿耶路撒冷的聖城，讓基督教重新有信仰中心。這就是拉利貝拉從一座小城成為大城、又成為首都；而教堂群從小群的地方性膜拜地，成為全國的宗教中心的原因。而拉利貝拉國王所憑藉的建築藍圖，則是他青年時期在耶路撒冷生活的記憶。

拉利貝拉這個名字的意思是“蜜蜂承認的主權”（The bees recognize his sovereignty）。傳說拉利貝拉誕生的時候，一群蜜蜂圍繞著嬰兒，而沒有一隻蜜蜂叮咬他。他的母親認為這是拉利貝拉要成為統治者的預示，於是因此取名。
