Have you been living life at a frantic pace, with your thoughts pulled in a million directions by worries about your future or regrets about your past? Friend, the Lord wants you to slow down and enjoy the present—because this is where His favor, blessings, and opportunities abound. We learned in Hebrews 4 that the promised land for the believer is rest, and the only labor left for us to do is labor to enter into rest. Because our Lord Jesus has already secured every provision we need for lives at the cross, today we can trust Him and rest in all He has done. Many times, this is easier said than done (that is why entering into rest is called a “labor”!). How do we labor to enter into rest when the worries of life start pulling us in many different directions and we can’t seem to silence the stressful thoughts in our heads? This week, take time to do the one thing needful—listen to God’s Word. Whether it is before you start your day or when you are on your commute to work, listen to sermons that remind you of how much God loves you and all that He has accomplished for you at the cross. Replace your thoughts of worry with thoughts of His supply. As you focus your thoughts on His finished work and how complete you are in Him, you are guarding your heart from the worries of life. And out of the good treasure of your heart will you bring forth good things (Matt. 12:35)! [Beijing] The East and West Wing Towers (东西雁翅楼) are the extension from the Meridian Gate which allow the emperor to look up to heaven, these walls are 12 metres high and formed a square in front of the Meridian Gate. There are no “centre of interest” like a sculpture, a pond or a pillar which are common in modern plazas or courtyards to discourage any form of congregation here. The soldiers and imperial guards were guarding in the front and casting their watchful eyes from the watch towers, these transformed the square into a space of “pressure” where one felt the need to move on. However, the irony is that people could not move freely because everywhere was heavily guarded and everyone was being watched. However there were also exceptions, commoners could come here during major festive celebrations.
