Back to my usual routine, I popped into @minglecafekl today, (an abandoned building turned into beautiful cafe) and there was such a magical atmosphere, surrounded with all the green with a live 70’s song playing tunes, people enjoying their date with coffee, and love light glinting in every corner. how was your Valentine’s date going?

‘TIS THE SEASON to treat yourself with the newest two-star Michelin kid on the block! 🎉🎄 The oft-used and now almost idiomatic phrase of ‘Japanese-inspired French cooking’ used to describe this wonderfully artistic restaurant doesn’t do justice to the genius used to marry the two cuisines into eternal harmony. Like the chocolate tart hidden in plain sight inside the decorative book on each table, distinctly Japanese flavours are embedded into and shine in each plate which takes on the appearance of a French dish. The French staple of a fish course is in fact a lovely piece of kinmedai (more commonly used in sushi) hiding underneath its wing a bed of Pak choy, whilst an intricate pastry rose reminiscent of those glinting in Parisian patisseries is in fact made of persimmon, more often consumed in this corner of the world. My favourite was in fact the now-famous chocolate tart, this time drizzled with just the perfect amount of cognac - I held my head in my hands and nearly cried at how good it was 😂 Although the meal was far from perfect (the kouign amann petit fours just wanted a crispier caramelised crust, my companion’s and my orders kept getting mixed up, and one waiter rather rudely trailed off explaining the dish when he saw I was taking a photo), I wouldn’t mind coming back again for the theatrical surprises! ———————————— ✨ Calligraphy lunch menu ($488, plus $188 supplement for uni course plus $136 for 2g white truffle) ✨I got: 1️⃣Uni with squid ‘pasta’ with white truffle 2️⃣ Game pie (including deer and hare meat) 3️⃣ Persimmon with various textures of walnuts ✨My companion got 1️⃣ Amaebi (raw spot prawn) with a beetroot chip and pickled onion 2️⃣ Kinmedai with Pak choy 3️⃣ Spicy cacao pudding ✨ Our petit fours included: 1️⃣ Chocolate tart drizzled with cognac 2️⃣ Japanese melon 3️⃣ Kouign amann (layered pastry with a caramelised crust and stuffed with cream) 📍Écriture (Michelin 2⭐️) 🇭🇰26/F, H Queen’s, 80 Queen’s Road Central, Central ———————————— #dflCentral #dflHK ————————————

Imagine the gold complex jutting up from the ground, visible miles away glinting in the sun. Photos don’t do it justice because it was stunningly beautiful set upon sprawling rice paddies - and it made me feel so small.
