G R A N I T A 🍉 aka watermelon slushies! If you want an icy cool fun treat, freeze some watermelon then blend it together w some fresh mint and a squeeze of lime! I cannot even begin to tell you what a simple joy this is. It reminds me of summer and pineapple dole whip and maybe for just a second, I can imagine us on a beach holiday somewhere with teeny tiny splashing and discovering ocean waves for the first time. I am so glad that for years, we chose experiences as gifts for our family. In these last few years of extended lockdown, it has allowed us to dream and imagine together, picnics on our balcony, holidays in our living room, cosy vacation nooks and forts in our bedroom. I will even go so far as to say, it’s kept us sane and hopeful as we wondered together, pulling from our memory treasures, creating conversations of hurt and heart, our little corner in the world, safe at home. As things begin opening up again, it’s a dance of cautious optimism and collective responsibility. Schools, restaurants, vacations, flying, meeting family and the honest truth is I don’t have an absolute. I can only come home to us. As a mama and as a specialist, I can only know that in every decision we make, it’s been thought through and so very prayed over with the utmost care. Over and over again, in the spaces that I have the privilege to love, lead and parent, we slow down to listen to within. Let the science guide you but oh mama and daddy, we’ll always come home to what’s best for you and your family that only you have the answers for and are the expert over. Brain-based, heart-centered. It will look different for everyone. There will be a million different circumstances and choices and options and variables to consider. So whatever it may look like for you and your family, I wish you simple joys and the little things. All are welcome. We love you, mama. I D E A S 💡Are you starting to lose parts of your ever loving mind too? Our stir-crazy child has been building forts, creating obstacle courses, jumping off couches, using daddy for OT exercises, craving for movement and running and pushing and pulling and so we’ve rolled with it. Safe at home. It’s a mantra we keep repeating to ourselves. We are safe at home. Here are 5 fun things you can do with your child today to get in some movement and mood regulating endorphins! 🌈❤️✨ ✨ Make a wheelbarrow course except teeny tiny is the wheelbarrow! Support their legs/hips/knees (depending on age and abilities) and let them use their hands to “walk”. They’ll think it’s hilarious and it gets in some complex, core strengthening and important body-brain communication! ✨ Be the anchor and allow teeny tiny to “push” into or “pull” you. Running start, varying strengths, use their front, use their back, make a train, the possibilities and laughs are endless! ✨ Play livingroom hopscotch, “getah”, yoga ball bounce, star jumps or a space hopper race to get in some much needed bouncing, jumping, fun. ✨ Balloon/bubble dance! Turn on some music, blow some bubbles (so great for breath work too) or bloooooooow your yuck into a balloon and release for giggles and chasing and jumping and laughing. ✨ EG’s personal favorite - the floor is lava!
