Last week I had the unique opportunity to take part in the Ferrari Corso Pilota Challenge Evolution program at the iconic Daytona Speedway. The program is designed take fast drivers and make them race car drivers preparing them to compete in the Ferrari Challenge series. Having spent the last 5 years driving sports cars on racetracks, I must say this course was next level. We had the very best in pit crews and instructors by our sides giving us confidence to push ourselves beyond imaginable limits. We started off on the first day familiarizing ourselves with the track in the new Ferrari F8 Tributo, a 720hp twin turbo V8 beast of a machine. After a few rounds in the F8 on track, skid pad and autocross course we transitioned into the 488 Challenge car. I must say that driving this race car has ruined my track driving experience forever. Although the Challenge car has less horsepower than the F8 it is set up exclusively for the track with racing slicks, additional aero and racing suspension allowing you to go much faster than the street car. All strapped in surrounded by a full roll cage, I was unable to do anything expect grip my hands onto the F1 style steering wheel. It was intimidating and slightly uncomfortable at first but as soon as I got a couple laps in non of that mattered. I felt the sensation of becoming one with the car barreling down the embankment with my foot to the floor at 175mph. It was a transcendent experience. The g forces at those speeds and specifically the sensation coming down off the embankment literally rattled my brain. I sometimes struggled to see straight. After each session I would go over the telemetry data with my instructor and figure out how to shave time, how to improve. I have had all types of instruction before but this was of the highest level. I actually felt like a race car driver which is what Ferrari intends as most graduates of this program transition into full on racing in the Ferrari Challenge series. Will I take the next step and become a full fledged race car driver? That will be dependent on if I can sneak this past the wifey but do I feel like one now? Truly a must-have for any phase of the reading/writing learning experience. I would recommended ages in between 2-6 years old. Kayden loves vehicles 🚗 so , I add up the sticker - green - Go , Yellow , Red -stop traffic light 🚦 color to encourage more fun in learning 😆.
